How to improve my fps with my config ?

Hello,

I have version 1.7.7 of Skyrim and I go through Skse to play and I want to improve my fps. I play on a modest PC with 9800GT and 4 cores. Is there a mod version that is compatible with good results?

With the settings below I shoot between 30 and 40 fps ... (I did not install any mod that improve textures or lights)

- Quality of texture, high

- Quality of blur: low

- Level of detail: Average

- Quantity: Average

Antialiasing: 4

Resolution, 1680 x 1050

FXAA: Enabled

Water: reflection landscape

Hi, I have a 9800 GT as well, 4 cores.

I have found the following very useful:

GeForce Tweak Guide

RookieNoob's Tweak Guide

My card is manufactured by EVGA, so I use Precision to limit my fps to 35, helps smooth things out. Also, out card tend to run hot, so you will want to keep an eye on it, and make sure to blow out the dust in your case regularly.

Mods I have found particularly useful:

WATER

Static Mesh Improvement Mod

Rugged Rocks

Skyrim Flora Overhaul (using this mod has allowed me to turn my grass WAY down by setting my prefs.ini (read about it in the tweaks links, above)--the swaying grass takes a lot of resources. This mod fills the area with brush and bushes--I don't even notice the grass is gone, but my fps around Whiterun is much better.)

HLP Night Sky

Other mods that add to skyrim that have worked well for me include

Jaysus Swords

Immersive Armors

Improved Eyes Skyrim

I dont use Bethesda's Hi-res texture packs--they do give me a hit in the fps. The above mods make things really gorgeous, and no hit; though I use the medium or low res options for all of them.

There are also some mods that I found I just cant use. SkyMo's early versions worked great for me, but the current version is just too massive and my rig can't handle all the extra spawns--probably due in part to my choosing to extend the ugridtoload to 7. This extends the graphic detail, but it does take a lot of system resources. If you decide to do it, read up on it carefully before trying. If you are interested in mods that spawn extra NPC's and/or creatures, you might want to use the standard gridstoload first.

Of course, none of the mods or the game will run properly without a legal game running through Steam. However, I play with steam in offline mod (which reduced crashes/lags from Steam updating while I am playing) and I do not use the workshop, in part because workshop mods loading and updating are controlled by steam rather than me being able to decide if I want to update them, etc.

Finally, if you haven't already updated your drivers to the 306 version, you will want to do so, I use the 306.23 stil, but there is a 306.9something too, both are WHQL. Do not use the Windows driver or Steam driver updates...do a complete clean reinstall, as described here. (appropriate even if your drivers are not EVGA manufactured). You will also want to download Nvidia Inspector if you have not, to use instead of the standard NVidia interface. I have found I can get better AF and AA by disabling both in the game and forcing to my driver....but other people have different results.

The other thing I do is disable FXAA. I find it causes more trouble than it is worth. Of course AO also uses a lot of resources.

Ultimately, it is a matter of preference, of course, what to give up in favor of what you want to keep and/or enhance. I hope this helps!
