Rezze23
Well started playing Skyrim again after a few months break. Actually started from a clean install of the game/mods while using some old save files. Unfortunately I am experiencing random CTD, normally I would get a huge FPS drop to 1-10 fps followed by a CTD. I deactivated mods one by one to see if something was causing it, however this did not find anything. I noticed that In NMM plugin list that skyrim.esm 00 was checked but grayed out...I looked in Appdata-local-skyrim-plugins- that skyrim.esm was not in the text file. I did a verify steam game cache for skyrim and it said all files were normal. I read that re-installing skyrim and using old game saves could cause some problems and after starting a new game for about 35 mins in I have yet experienced a CTD... Anyone have any thoughts on this? I don't mind starting over, however the esm file still isn't fixed..I don't want to put 20+ hours into a save that will mess up later... Would it be worth to reinstall the game/mods for the esm file? thanks Edited October 25, 2012 by Rezze23
Georgiegril
I'd suggest that you first try to verify your cache files on steam. My esm is greyed out...I always assumed that was because it is not an option to remove that file. Also, since you have not played for a while, it's possible that skyrim is now using a later patch (which should have been automatically updated for you) and your mods may need updating to work with it. blitzen
Skyrim.esm should not be listed in plugins.txt, only loadorder.txt. If there were something wrong with Skyrim.esm, you would have much more severe problems then a drop in frame rate or occasional CTD. Your problem is that you are using old save files which probably depend on a mod configuration different from what you are using now. Skyrim has a lot of problems in this scenario, since content from mods does go into your save file. You can get some idea of what problems are arising from the mismatch by enabling papyrus logging and examining the logs.Although what you see in the logs may not be directly related to a crash or slowdown, it will give you insight into how badly mismatched your save is with your current mod config. Also, you are using a different version of Skyrim now, and there were some significant changes to Skyrim itself. It's best to start with a clean game using only those mods you really intend to keep. Don't invest a lot of time in a character while you have a bunch of mods active that you are only trying out.
