formalrevya
This has been bugging the hell out of me in my current play through. I was in Dawnstar, working on a quest for the Companion story line. When A courier runs up to me out of the blue with a note. Upon reading it I learn that Adrianne Avenicci, the blacksmith for Warmaidens in Whiterun, has met an unfortunate end. Apparently somewhere between delivering the Jarl's sword to her father and working with her at her forge, I became ranked high enough on her list of friends to inherit 100 gold from her estate. ((Of which Jarl Balgraff took 10. Not a wise ideal to tax a guy who can burn your entire keep to the ground in a lazy afternoon buddy)) Funnily enough, I did not care about her in the least bit until I found out she had given me money. So my character is the kind of guy who would want to murder the murderer, because she held him in such high esteem. Only problem is. I have no ideal who did it! I was out of town, I certainly didn't have anything to do with it personally, otherwise I would remember. This is as annoying as the girl in fallout 3 one would randomly find lying dead on a walkway in Megaton. and just as much of a mystery. So who wants to help this would be dark avenger with some clues?
stabbykitteh
First thought would be to ask if you have Dawnguard installed. Those traveler vampires are pretty sneaky murderers.
formalrevya
First thought would be to ask if you have Dawnguard installed. Those traveler vampires are pretty sneaky murderers. I do actually. It was what led me to install skyrim again after having not played it in a while. So, I suppose I'll just have to wait until I bump into one for "Justice" to be done. Kind of odd that they can randomly murder non essential characters. there's a couple of quests that involve non essential characters that they could easily ruin. stabbykitteh
If you poke around here you'll find a few threads lamenting Dawnguard's many victims. Good luck with your retribution :)

Good luck with your retribution :) I think my retribution is out of the question. Seems her hubby didn't take to kindly to a strange traveler and his 3 "buddies" killing his wife. Found a lovely pile of dead bodies waiting for me right inside the gates. Unfortunately Uberth's was among the ones I found. thanks for the help though. Deleted3507349User
Don't blame it on Dawnguard. I had this happen before Dawnguard was available. Not with Adrianne, though. NPCs have been known to die by falling out of the sky, among other things. I watched the blacksmith in Riften stumble into his own forge and die, once. Upshot is, if an NPC dies that is one of your 'friends' you can get the inheritance. In fact, even if you kill someone YOURSELF you might get the inheritance. Skyrim is an amusing world. OakRain
To combat random NPC wastage I use a batch file run from the console at the start of a new game to set around 150 NPCs as essential.I am not to keen on losing vendors or quest givers due to vampire attacks,Deadly Dragon encounters or just random NPC aggro.
