One of my better poems

Fate

I proceed down a winding path, never knowing my fate.

I know for a fact that wherever I go, I will never arrive late.

My feet march on, step by step, until my body aches.

Now I find myself nearing what appears to be a most gigantic lake.

Deception fooled me, once again, what seemed a lake is fake.

I only wish that I had known so before, for my aching body’s sake.

This sea of water, which I thought I saw, was but a bemocking mirage.

I found myself still moving forward, until at last I spotted a lodge.

Heat and Despair left me in anguish, while another step took me nowhere.

I started running to near what was far, but I soon was heaving for air.

Am I delirious or merely wearied? The cabin disappeared without notice!

Have I made a digression, erring from my path? Here I find no solace.

At last, I descry what has not come or gone.

Something by where rails go on and on.

My foot reaches the gravel and causes me to fall.

Now Fate looks down at me, standing so tall.

I lay here on these rocks alone, at long last feeling contrite.

Whereas all my thoughts of the past are like a dismal night.

I thought I heard a whistle in the wind, but there was nothing I could see.

The ground began to tremble and then the Iron Horse hied over me.
