Help needed with a map

I have searched tutorials in the wiki, here and on other sites anytime I search for maps I get tutorials on Mapping textures except for this tutorial (Here) it only explains how to place their map in the game. I need to know how to make a map for a new worldspace. This map is for a whole new continent. I have drawn a map for testing. According to the information I have been able to find the map of Cyrodiil is 2048x2048 (mine is) and any new map should be placed in

C:/Program files/Bethesda softworks/Oblivion/Data/Textures/menues/Maps/World

the map should be a dds file or format, I'm not sure of the terminology. and in the CS for the worldspace the map is chosen from a list.

I drew up a test map, converted it to dds using Paint.net and placed it in the proper folder. When I went ingame to test it I found that as soon as I entered my world the map of Cyrodiil was replaced but it was replaced with a blank page. On returning to Cyrodiil the Cyrodiil map was once again available.

I need to fast travel in Pellucidar (my worldspace) but I can't if I don't have a map with the areas marked. I know that I will have to find them first. I have been working on this for a while and have posted here asking for info before. If you know any new information, if you know of a good tutorial that I may have missed, Please post here.

My apologies if this is considered a bump but I can't believe that no one on this forum has ever worked out how to make a map for their own worldspace. I downloaded the BSA unpacker and have searched the files, even checking them with nifskope, but haven't been able to find the original in game map of Cyrodiil. Could someone at least tell me where to find the file so that I can learn from Bethesda's map?

I really need help with this one!

I think Exanimus is asking for a map for her worldspace, not a completely new world space. I've been trying to figure this out myself but short of a TON of trial and error I can't figure out how beth did their maps...

Thanks Dez, I'll do that. I have already sent a PM to Spewboy since he seems to work a lot with maps but haven't heard from him yet.

Montanna and I were going to use his talents for our mod,but because he's a minor that idea was nixed.but he did make a world space for us,and he's friendly and likes to help people!

Just messin with you.

Yes, the player will leave Tamriel when they enter a series of caves that will lead to the inner world of Pellucidar. ( a world within a world) they will need to be able to fast travel around Pellucidar as the continent is nearly as big as Cyrodiil but they will not be able to fast travel back to Cyrodiil, only around Pellucidar. To return to Tamriel the player will have to go through the maze of caves they used to get there.

It has taken several days and much trial and error but I now know how to add a working map to my worldspace. The Cyrodiil map is still in place whenever I am in Tamriel but the Pellucidar map in in place while in Pellucidar. I now need to learn how to draw an accurate map and I will post a tutorial as soon as I figure it out. Maybe I can save someone else several days of stress with it. Don't worry Khet, You'll be the first to know because I know you are almost ready for a map in your mod.

Edit

Dang! I almost feel like a real modder now

Depending on the size of the worldspace, you can use the LOD textures as a basis for any drawn map, although this process pretty much requires the ability to work with very large textures within a program that allows multiple layers. The minimum size you should try to match a worldspace to is 4 quads. If your used area is smaller than those 4 quads, then your map may be extremely difficult to line up. Even at 4 quads, getting things to line up right takes many, many hours of trial and error. Generally, the larger the worldspace, the less dependant you are on having to make everything match up. For a very small worldspace, you are probably best off just using a blank world map, and having people use the local maps to get around.
