Greylich
So, I'm really new to the modding community, and Fallout and Skyrim always seemed super interesting with all the mods changing them up- because I used to play them religiously. I was watching people like MxR and all his mod reviews, and gathered most of my inspiration for what I wanted from him. But it seems the more and more I watch his videos and find some mods I'd really enjoy- they're just... gone. Like a surprising amount of mods just don't exist anymore, at least on the Nexus. E.g (True Storms, weapon racks, flashlight mods, and a bunch of other ones that seemed really popular) This is really disappointing to pick up FO4 for only $9 on the autumn Steam sale, only to see that only about half of the mods are still around (and they're not really the ones I want, nor replacements for the ones I wanted). As far as I can tell, I'd really enjoy contributing to the community but I'm lost at this point- and don't even know if it's worth it anymore seeing as many authors and devs have just backed out over the past couple years. I can't really find anything on this. Like I said, I'm super late to modding- but is there something that happened that I'm unaware of? Plagiarism? Screation Club? I'm just really confused. Skyrim's part of the Nexus seems just fine. Where's all of Fallout 4's mods? Much appreciated, gamers. EDIT: Am I just not looking in the right place or? taryl80
Fallout 4 modding had to fight against multiple problems and that all had lead to mod authors left modding, or at least taken their mods from the nexus. I guess, nobody knows really every reason, for every single mod author, but imo the first "wave" of mod authors left the fo4 scene, was at a time where users have in general not endorse mods. On this time mods had a ridiculous amount on endorsment/downloadrate (50k unique downloads and just 100 endorsments or what it was to that time). I can understand mod authors who have left modding for this very reason. To give a endorsment to a mod needs only a secound and there is no excuse, for nobody, if he does not give a endorsments besides that he don't like the mod for whatever reason and some people take that to much to their heart I guess. Then also Bethesda and Valve were pushing paid mods in Skyrim/Fallout. Something that we still see today in form of the creation club. That was also for some people a reason to go. I have no problems with it. Sometimes I ask me anyways, if it would not be better if every mod costs something, so that users understand the "value" of a mod and the work behind it. Some clearly don't have understand it, what leads me to another reason: Some Mod-Authors have left because they got insulted, or had to often to struggle with false bug reports from users. After my experience - Users come very often in your bug section with bugs that have nothing to do with your mod, but for sure they make you accountable for it and for sure expect they that you solve their problem. Also there is a lot of mod-thievery going on. Mods getting downloaded from the nexus and then uploaded to some other place. In many times, including a price tag on them. That are all reasons that upset the one or other mod-authors and some leaving then. As a tip: Save every mod you like in a mod-safe-directory. I have for every game with mods I play, a directory and save there every mod I use. On this way I still have the mods, even if a mod author deletes his mods on the nexus, or any other page. geala
Some mods disappear and others come on. There is still a huge bunch of good quality mods available. I would not play without some of the mods. The only mod I used which seemingly really is gone without replacement yet is the only mod I downloaded not from Nexus but from the Bethesda page, about weapon and armor destruction. Varago
I found the Nexus search engine to be VERY POOR at best, I dont know if they have a blacklist for there search engine is just junk. What I found that works about 100 times better is google. Type in the fallout 4 and the modes name and you will have a link to it on Nexus in no time at all. I would hate for the same thing to happen to me if I were to pour blood, sweat, and tears into one of my own creations just for people to steal it/not show me appreciation. I mean, with what you said, I now realize how important the endorsements are. I'll definitely be showing love to the ones I like and use, then. Thanks for the insight. Infamous95
I've been around a bit so a few major things come to mind. First thing was paid mods back when here on the nexus which alot of people were mad about and when they removed it modders who liked that also left. Then the creation club happened. Some people left over that for whatever reason. There was a whole piracy deal going on at some point a site was stealing mods but thats always been an "issue." Recently its the Mod Packs thing. Quite a few modders took their mods down just over the concept of that. I don't understand it myself. Why care about such trivial things? As a modder It's understandable to care about your work but some people care way too much to the point their overprotective and/or remove their stuff over these things despite it bringing happiness to other people. For that reason alone I would never remove any of my stuff. Want to steal my work? Fine have at er. As long as it brings someone joy. Just my two cents. Greylich
[sOLVED] Well, I just needed to use Google, I guess- because the Nexus' search is shoit. Though, I have found in a few cases that people were very protective and removed their mods in protest, which is really unfortunate. Others, merged their mods into bigger mods- which can be nice, actually. But I have issues with people who get really stingy and combine all of their mods in one mods pack, full of seemingly unrelated things. I want SOME of the mods they have, not their entire portfolio. I'm looking at a specific modpack here, but I won't say names. Craftable elevators, ramps, and all the fun stuff- but the author insists on adding all of their other mods, unwanted mechanics, and quests I just don't want in my game. Guess that's a loss- I couldn't find them separately anymore. Thanks for the help, guys- I'm finding almost everything now. ;)
