Skyrim Freezing Has Become Unplayable

My save file is roughly 50mb and would freeze for a second every 5 minutes or so, but today it has gotten to a point where it CTD's after the freeze, making my game basically unplayable. I started a new save and I wasn't experiencing any freezing issues. Is there any way to possibly make my save smaller, even if it's only a couple of megabytes? I really would not like to start over and if there is any possibility to fix my save I'll take it.

Edit - forgot to mention I think I deleted all mods but my save went up like 6mb in a day of playing

Bloated saves...cant really do anything with them you have to either make a new game or load a earlyer save ;(

Ah I see... is there any way I could make it stop crashing though? I'm on vanilla skyrim and my save still went up like 6mb in only a day of gameplay

Check the Scripts folder. If you are on vanilla game it should be clean. Backup it, just in case.

And start new game.

I deleted my entire skyrim folder and verified integrity on steam so I don't see why my bloated save still kept getting bigger.

Your bloated save will continue to grow because of the script data from uninstalled mods will continue to try to run and spit out error messages because it cannot find the scripts in your data folder any more.

At present nobody has created a save game editor.

The only thing you can do really is to start a new game and only add mods that you will want for the duration of that character.
