cars in fallout 3?

FYI - You cannot legally "port" anything that shipped with Oblivion or the DLCs for use in Fallout 3. If anything from Oblivion is found in a Fallout 3 mod uploaded to the Nexus, it will be deleted.

There would need to be some animations done to use the motorcycle but I do not know if the game even supports "ridable" creatures. I hope it does because if a DLC adds it, I am sure the licensing will be hosed up beyond belief to where it cannot be easily modded just like Oblivion DLCs.

I'd like to see some Back-To-The-Future hoverboards personally since the ground is quite rough and would be difficult to "ride" over using a vehicle.

if it doesnt support it there is still the possibility to do it like madmax in morrowind with his horse mod... script some furniture to move by keyboard entry...

add to each move an animation of turning and spinning wheels and voila a bike... dunno if animated furniture is possible tho...

I hadn't even thought about hoverboards and such... but that's actually a pretty cool idea. It could be an item that you carry with you and equip to ride- the hassle of losing your mount to enemies and wonky AI would vanish forever. And there are floating robots already; they just use some sort of advanced micro-jet engine to stay airborne. A hoverboard could work on the same principle- now I'm trying to picture what a hoverboard would look like and be made out of. A somewhat long, flat object, motorcycle gas tank (for fuel), a few thrusters made from something else (A firehose nozzle? A unique part found only on Mr. Handy/ Mr. Gutsy robots?) and a control mechanism of some sort. Buildable at a workbench with the proper schematics and parts, provided you survive finding them. Result: one Wasteland Hoverboard Special, perfect for crossing those irradiated rivers and skimming over the hills in style.

And, naturally, if an enemy shoots it one time too many, it unequips and you faceplant, with a chance to cripple your head and/or limbs and lose a significant chunk of health.

You just made my day with that idea. :)

It would be fairly easy to simply use a basic chair modded to look like a car seat and simply allow you to sit in it like a normal chair and then just move that around with a car-model attached to it. I think clipping issues would be horrible if the game doesnt have the code to make this kind of thing work smoothly. I am hoping for an expansion with vehicles/mounts if modders cannot bring them to life well.

I would be amazed if even something like the above-mentioned hoverboard was introduced that simply raised your char up off the ground, placed a metal plank under them, and made run speed increase by 150-200% or so to make travel without fast travel less of a killer.

why should it be forbidden to import things from oblivion??? silent hunter 3 has improved by using things from SH4 as well, as SH4 has been improved by using things from SH3! the modding scene over there never had such restrictions and they seem to me quite useless...as there may be some very useful parts to be imported. so please explain...

as useless as you consider them. copyright law exists to protect ones intellectual property. if they say they dont want he vanilla content ported to other games, that is their right as the owners of that intellectual property.

bethesda has stated there will be no vehicles in Fo3. ever. that means we will not see any as DLC. however, they may have left the rideable coding intact in Gamebryo, and if they did, it should not be hard to mod in a vehicle or 2 =)

Even if a player-controlled vehicle isn't possible at this point, I could think of another possibly easier to achieve means of transportation.

Does anybody know if it's possible to have self-moving platform of any kind which the player can stand on while it's moving on it's own?

I'm thinking along the lines of the public transportation Morrowind had (I never played Oblivion). Imagine a boat at that little restaurat on the river beach in D.C. and a guy standing there. He keeps the boat intact and can take you somewhere else along the river (preferably, from a gameplay point of view, at the other end of the map). When using the boat by pressing 'e', a certain amount of bottlecaps gets deducted, and you'll have to jump on the boat, while the guy steers it. It move automatically , so you can walk around a few steps on the boat and dodge/answer some supermutants firing at you while the boat passes them. If you fall/jump off the boat, it would keep on moving without you, it's a dangerous place, the guy steering it wouldn't wait for you...

Actually, now that I'm reading my text again, it seems to be more about the specific idea to have such a boat taxi in the game rather than the technical prerequisites for such a mod. I guess, if it shows to be impossible to add a vehicle that you can steer yourself, it'll also be impossible to have this boat that you don't steer yourself...
