teiselaise
Hey, i tried making my own spells with custom fx, but just realized it's a way bigger task than i initially thought. I don't really understand skyrims spell fx, and after looking at how other mods, like Elemental Destruction Magic, im just as confused. The files seems to be nif files with references to textures etc. So yeah i have no idea how to work with this. Im posting this to see if anyone has any experience with this, or can point me to a resource, i found one post, which i used as a foundation, but the scope was only changing colour, not actually making new effects, and i didn't get past that. It's okay if you can't help, i don't really mind moving on from this, would just be nice to see things to an end. Thanks.
cumbrianlad
I'm very late on this, i know, but I've done it a long time back. I can't recall exact details but I know that it involved Nifskope and adding the textures you refer to into the nif. I simply took an existing nif that was closest to what I needed and added the new textures into it, from what I recall. Depending what you're doing you may have several textures to replace. I know I did because I was using an explosion which had different textures for the casting, firing, explosion and the particles that fly away from the explosion. Your best bet is to go along those lines, think of a spell that is close to what you want, then track down all the nifs and textures from there. Sorry i can't offer more. maxarturo
The visual FX used by Spells have this structure: Spell uses > Magic Effect uses (on its property) > Casting Art (the FX in the hand) + Casting Light (the FX in the hand) > Hit Shader (the FX upon hitting) > Projectile (the projectile from your hand to the target) > and optional Explosion (the explosion at the target position or on hit) + Image Space (the image space mod that will play). Casting Art Hit Shader Projectile Explosion Image Space All of the above needs to be edited or created new (custom made), so you can have your desired Spell Visual FX, this means editing the nifs and the textures that go along with them. And when you are done with them you need to create your own "Magic Effect" that has on it all of your edited Arts, then you create your Spell with your Magic Effect. cumbrianlad
It all comes flooding back to me, Maxarturo! That's exactly what I did. I've got a memory like a sieve (except mine has more holes in it for the information to leak out!). Any chance you could call in on me once or twice a week and remind me what I'm supposed to be doing?
