Baer2x4
My sound from pc suddenly quits and can't find anything in Nvidia or pc settings to help. At the same time I notice there's also a Nvidia driver update available, so I update Nvidia & sound is restored. Happened 3 times now and have no idea why. It's a GTX 1080 card. Anyone know why the sound is quitting & what the driver update has to do with it? I have pc output going into Denon receiver via HDMI but don't think that has anything to do with the problem. I have think the update may be resetting something, but what setting? Edited December 16, 2019 by Baer2x4
obobski
The GTX 1080 is, from what it sounds like, in effect your soundcard here (since it is sending audio via HDMI). So the driver update/install is resetting the 1080 and/or its audio settings. If you go into either the sounds/audio devices control panel OR the nVidia Control Panel, you should see an option for enabling/disabling audio over HDMI - if you have multiple monitors hooked up it may be 'picking' a different monitor and thinking that's where sound should go (instead of the HDMI going into your Denon), or it may be 'picking' onboard audio or some other soundcard (non-GTX 1080) instead as well. Those would be the first things I'd check.
Deleted54170User
The basic sound settings share the motherboards sound inboard system too. It has to be turned off on occasions. Again disabled occasionally if they are reset by the computers upgrades, so when you go to the sound settings disable the motherboards inboard audio plug. I have four sound gadgets reported and the Motherboard and the Video cards conflict more often than with the others. When I discovered how to get into my computer's BIOS I disabled the Motherboards Audio device in BIOS because the Nvidia cards works without any help, and also found I could flip switches so I get better performance and quality for my computer games. I must give you fair warning. Pay close attention to these words. :geek: If you learn how to open the computer's BIOS be sure that you know what you are going to do, do it, and get out of there as fast as you can. Or you may end up wondering :geek: what another switch might do, and not be able to get your computer working again. :ermm:
