I want to make new rases, and actualy creat them from a 3d creater(I can get access to Adoby, for textures, TG), but besides the bank braking 3DS Max, are there other good 3D charater creating software that can be used with morrowind? Or is there a way to make the charater or parts in one program and then import them into the trial verson of 3DS Max, to make it into a file/files usable by Morrowind?

P.S. I'm sure I'm going to have more questions, when I get to work on the project I'm plaing to work with. ;)

1) No. The export plugin is for 3dsmax only.

2) Maybe. I don't know if the plugin is max6 compatable. If it is, you can do exactly that. If it isn't, then no.

actualy gmax you can make bits in then serch for a 3ds exporter for gmax then get some one with a copy of 3dsmax 4 (recomended) to export it to a nif for ya a few ppl on the net with it :)

The problem is gmax's export function is crippled to prevent it from being competition to 3dsmax. You can't directly export to any useful formats, and the only way to get anything into 3dsmax involves multiple format conversions, and doesn't work perfectly.

As far as a 3d modeling program that can import and export .3ds files, I would recommend Wings3d. It is a nice little freeware program that has tutorials available which will take you through the basics. Wings 3d also supports the import of and export of .obj and .ndo files, as well as export of .wrl, .mdl, .rwx, and Yafray files. You can find it at:

http://www.wings3d.com

If anyone decided to release a stand-alone 3ds to nif converter I would be very grateful ;) I originally started looking here today to see if I could locate a conversion program.

Update: Wings 3d may not be the best program to use with .3ds files. Appearantly wings uses square polygons and 3ds uses triangular polys. When Wings converts 3ds files it doubles the number of polygons in the mesh. I had originally gotten it for use with obj files/Poser. It may be wiser to use Anim8or, another freeware program. There is also a free standalone program for converting nif files to 3ds files. It is called nifto3ds. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any standalone programs which will change a 3ds file back to a nif.

The programs I mentioned can be found by searching on Google.
