exanimis
I've been working on getting an accurate map for my worldspace into Oblivion. I haven't been able to find any tutorials and the help offered on this forum so far has been to not make one. I don't give up so easily. Here is a temporary map I've made of my worldspace, all the details are not in it yet, it's just a test map but it has proven to be fairly accurate and allows fast travel within my worldspace. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/Pellucidar/ShowMap.jpg the map isn't seen in it's entirety in game and here are a few screenshots showing how it looks when playing Oblivion. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/Pellucidar/Oblivion2008-11-1504-06-33-42.jpg http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/Pellucidar/Oblivion2008-11-1504-07-25-65.jpg http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/Pellucidar/Oblivion2008-11-1504-06-48-51.jpg I think the roll of parchment at the top and bottom are a nice touch that gives it more of a hand drawn feel. Since this is a test map I will be re doing it with much more detail and I am thinking about writing a tutorial. My method is certainly not what Bethesda did and I'm not sure if it will have any adverse effects on the game but if you are interested in the tutorial or if you would like to try it yourself and test it, let me know by posting here. ihateregisteringeverywhere
Some of the "ink" is on backside of the paper where it rolls back :P. (CAPTAIN OBVIOUS STRIKES AGAIN!!)
Vagrant0
The image used for the map gets cropped by a certain amount along the lower right side. I have not yet found a good means of determining how wide ths cropping is since it changes based on the size of the image, and what cells you mark as being valid for movement. This is really what makes making maps difficult for the game, especially with smaller spaces, since you have to spend many hours adjusting which cells are used, and how much of the image you are blacking out (to be cropped). I have found a way around that problem and the map works fine. I still have some tweaking to do as I sometimes find the courser over the ocean when I am actually on the shore but I'm determined to accomplish what I set out to do. My method is surprisingly simple although time consuming and there are no $600 (photoshop) programs needed. I made this map using free programs. exanimis
Some new work on my maps. This is the latest map although still not complete http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/Pellucidar/NEWMAP.jpg I placed a few map markers along the shore and did a lot of tweaking as you can tell from this screenshot I have almost perfected the accuracy. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/Pellucidar/Oblivion2008-11-1607-40-57-65.jpg I would use this map as I am going for a hand drawn look for it (the map will be in the diary of a previous explorer) but I've decided against the blue lakes. I think the blue ruins the look of the map. Oh! and VagrantO, the cropping at the bottom can be fixed with a single number tweak.
Khet
Actually you can have 100% head shot crit in game... get sniper perk, increase luck to 10, get better criticals for dmg increase, also if you want to hit crit all the time, just sneak... sneak attacks are considered critical hits... Exanimis I swear to you now if you do not tell me EXACTLY how you did this I will rip you throat out and offer your bleeding organs to.. *cough* erm... uh, where was I? Oh... oh yes! Right! Mind releasing that little 'tutorial' you mentioned in your PM to me? Oh, and take out the blue for the lakes, looks like crap on the map, figure something else out. Oh, and the drawing piece around Pellucidar word, don't leave those white, take that out so the paper underneath shows... don't look that great. If it's a hand drawn map you -could- use color if whoever had it before was a very accomplished cartographer or bought it off of one, but a common travelling map that could be easily disposed of (or it wouldn't matter if it got ruined) would have very little to no color at all. Colored maps were generally reserved for displays and such because they took a much longer time to make and were more expensive.
ihateregisteringeverywhere
You could strafe out the aproppriate areas. Would look better than the full blue IMO.
exanimis
As I said before, you'll be the first to get the tutorial Khet Ihate, I think I'll just remove the blue and go with a plain map
Vagrant0
I would also be rather interested in how you accomplished the alignment. That has always been the biggest pain in the ass for me, so having another way of doing things would be great.
ihateregisteringeverywhere
You know, I realy don't want to nitpick. And I'm sorry for doing so now, but it has been bothering me somewhat. The lines of the map look realy sharp and pixelated. Like when you draw them in mspaint. Did you draw your map in mspaint? Probably not, so sorry for the stupid question, it's just...
