Is Bethesda Corrupt (Skyrim DLCs and Updates)

Hey, guys. I was looking at all these DLCs and update histories, and the future dlcs and updates, and it slipped into my mind: Bethesda is incredibly money-hungry. Now, before you go crazy against my post, hear me out... What did people want all the time when Skyrim first came out? Additions to the Vampire lore, and additions to the werewolf lore. After that has been expressed, numerous mods were flowing out that had to do with vampires and werewolves. Then Bethesda saw this, and decided to make Dawnguard... gives players what was already made, but since it's an official release and costs money... you must buy it now, if you want a true addition to the werewolves and vampires. Then, people were ranting about house building and adoption. So, numerous mods (some were actually really good) that focused on those two aspects were released. Shortly afterwards, Bethesda came out with Hearthfire... Costs money, but it's official and gives us what we wanted, so we must grab hearthfire... THEN everyone wanted mounted combat... Some guy was working on a long term mod that would add new weapons, mounted combat, ability to use your horse to fight and kick people, and such... BUT, an official update has been released that added Mounted Combat! It's choppy, and ONLY adds mounted combat (no kicking or charging with your horse, no spears...) but since it's official and it's a mandatory-to-download update, any true need of downloading that mod is now gone. Am I the only one who sees a pattern with this??? If not, then forgive me, but I think Bethesda has lost all will to make something truly interesting for Skyrim, and just wants to rake in the cash, now. Tell me what you think!

If they want to try and rake in cash, let them try. We as prospective customers ultimately decide whether they get our money. If they make stuff that we want, we'll buy it.

BTW, vampires have been popular for years, and prototypes for most of the ideas in Dawnguard and Hearthfire could already be seen in the Game Jam video that was released in February.

That's the point of being a company. they see what their user base wants, and produce it if possible.

Conspiracy theories are really kinda...not that realistic, really.

Even when i look at how buggy skyrim is sometimes, l don't see that as them being corrupt - i see it as impatience and ceo's/shareholders who are demanding. Sheesh.

Well its normal, i mean you gotta understand that even though these people make games its still just another business...ofc those people who have worked on the game might feel there is more to it then that, but otherwise its just that.

There are always money hungry people grabing any chance at making a buck, but i have yet to see someone who wouldnt...if anyone is to blame, its the people who jump at anything thats being thrown at them.

Although i wasnt looking more deeper into the dlcs, they do not make the impression on me they were created after beth saw what people want, but more like those were already in vanila created long time ago and just taken away to be used for another money grab as dlcs...do i blame them for that...nope not at all...its their living...and someone has to buy a new ferrari each year ..right?

"Corrupt" is not really the right word. You could argue that Bethesda is doing a really good job in this one aspect. It is actually building things that lots of people want. People want vampire content and houses and crossbows. In my opinion, it would be bad if Bethesda built things nobody wanted. A killer mermaid DLC. A roleplay as a street sweeper DLC. A DLC where you roleplay as an Imperial clerk and fill out stacks and stacks of forms in triplicate. A DLC to make vampires sparkle in the sunlight. A DLC where there are lots and lots of political attack ads as the pretenders squabble over the throne in Solitude.

That is only a few things that Bethesda has come out with, that modders have worked on besides there are plenty of other mods that modders make that have been un-recreated by Bethedsa.

Vampire improvements and mounted combat have been wanted since oblivion.

Well... EA... Volition...

Your argument is invalid. Bethesda creates popular-desired content because that's marketing 101, not to mention if they can do it better than who is complaining. We can still mod anything they make to improve it as we see fit you know. Xbox can't, so of course they want a bit of good content to reach other platforms. Regardless, at least bethesada gives us free DLC (small as it may be) in the first place. EA wouldnt be caught dead doing a good deed like that unless there was a money grubbing reason. They want you to pay for online codes to access their servers if you bought a used game, destroying any money you might have saved by getting a second hand product. Volition pushes out little content for more then they're worth, especially when you can justify a new outfit (listed at $2 on Saints Row the Third) compared to $20 for a whole new questline, new armor, new weapons, new powers, and etc that Bethesda gives us.

Obviously, you didn't put much thought into this. Or maybe you just didn't look around. Bethesda messes up quite a bit (updates... bugs...) but at least they gave us FREE modding tools to do something about it. Know what I mean?

If Bethesda ripped out anything substantial from vanilla to release later as DLC, they did the absolute best job I've ever seen because every game in which that occurs has clear signs of it, especially once you get into the guts of the game. That said, in my opinion, I don't see that happening at all. At worst, unfinished assets may have been reused later, such as armors or buildings and so forth.

And aside from all the things mentioned in the original post, which all appeared in some form in the Game Jam video and were not a rip off of mods, Bethesda is far from corrupt in my opinion. EA's a corrupt gaming company, Capcom's a corrupt gaming company, Ubisoft sort of sucks on and off but not as bad. List goes on, but those are usually my top 3. EA for example, it's well known many of their games, both EA developed or just EA published, have ripped out content to make DLC, they have disc locked content, their patches have been known to break entire games or they put patches out in DLC, as in you pay to fix your game (and possibly get content you don't even care about and wouldn't have bought otherwise.) I could go on but I digress. Bethesda, like anything, isn't perfect, (PS3 Skyrim as an example) but they do at least try to fix things, give us free things in updates (that's pratically a gaming industry sin today), and include things in DLC's people have really been wanting, plus every tool they have the legal option to give us just so we can mod the game.
