shepmk
check out this site to find out more about the project..... The Toran Knights =====================================================edit: so the following discussion makes sense, this part was edited in later-Peregrine===================================================== LET ME TRY THIS AGAIN....... 1) Define your project: nothing is more important than this. Tell exactly what you're trying to make. Show that you've put some effort and thought into your project already. If you don't have this definition, you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone you're serious about it, and you probably won't ever get beyond the initial "hey, I could make a mod" thought. My project that i want to get started is actually quite simple. bring some of the suikoden universe into the morrowind universe.....its just an island....big island...... [2) Make your requests specific: don't just say "I need interior/exterior builders, scripters, modelers." Ask for specific things like "I need a sword model, and a script that does x." You've got a lot better chance of getting the help you want, and you're not wasting people's time by making them guess what you need. well, this is tough.....i have one modeler at the moment, but more modelers would be nice.....a model of castle toran would be great..... building....we'd pretty much use in-game models for the buildings...some will be retextured.... scripting....some new scripts will do, but i don't believe we'd have to make too many new ones.... 3) Make sure YOU are doing something, and I don't mean providing an idea: Whose project is going to get more interest, someone who posts a progress list, screenshots, and shows clear evidence of work on it, or someone who just writes a single line idea and expects everyone else to do all the real work. This is especially important if you're asking for major work. my hands will be getting plenty dirty on this project......i will be maintaining the site, scripting, retexturing,....and building.... 4) Use correct English: I know it's not everyone's main language, and everyone makes mistakes, but there's just no excuse besides laziness for stuff like "u" and 1337ish. If you don't take your project seriously enough to do this, why should anyone else? i don't see any problems there...... 5) Nobody owes you anything: We don't have endless free time just praying someone gives us an idea to work on. And unless you're paying us, nothing requires us to help you. So don't complain if your request doesn't get enough interest. Maybe you've got a problem with 1-4 above, maybe your idea isn't that interesting to people, or maybe the help you need doesn't have enough time to work on your project. never said anyone had to help.....i work a 40 hour job, have a wife, daughter and friends....so i know all about time....but don't let that discourage anybody from thinking about wanting to get involved in this project...... Kethruch
If you are going to advertise on another's site for help, etiquette would say that you have the courtesy of explaining your project, at least an overview, on the site you wish to recruit from. A simple link to your site is rude, as you are asking those who are browsing a site they want to be at to leave that site in order to get an idea of if they want to help you or not. Please - a simple description and then the link, so that those who would want to help might. As it is, the link could be to anything, and I personally would not go to somewhere that is so vague. shepmk
i mean no disrespect to this site at all...... its just that anytime someone post anything, this birddude has to jump down their throat.......its really annoying.... i know in just about every topic i posted in, he/she had some type of comment...... Marxist ßastard
I checked what you seem to think is worthy of the label "site." There is only a gigantic "click to enter" banner and a main page with the following text: Welcome to the Toran Knights. Its a WIP that borrows from SUIKODEN. What I mean by that is some of the charcters and places from the original Suikoden are placed in the morrowind universe. Why Suikoden and not Final Fantasy? Simply because, in my opinion, Suikoden is a far superior series. Don't get me wrong, Final Fantasy is great, but it is a little overrated........plus, there are already a couple FF moods out there. So if you think this might interest you, check out the message board. ...On that page, of four links, only the link to the forums worked. In the forums themselves, a grand sum of two posts have been made to date. I believed that your pathetic jumble of HTML had finally led me somewhere when I went to what was described as a thread of information for those wanting to sign up, but, alas, all that was to bee seen was the following: tell us a little about yourself.....what are your areas of specialty in the TESCS.......what do you know about the two games(suikoden/morrowind)......when can you be available to help..... ...If all we need to know is that this isn't a mod based upon Final Fantasy, then yes... Your abomination of a site and barren forum serve their porpose quite well. Shepard of Fools: i mean no disrespect to this site at all...... Indeed -- when you say that something is all we "need" to know, it gets personal. Shepard of Fools: its just that anytime someone post anything, this birddude has to jump down their throat.......its really annoying.... i know in just about every topic i posted in, he/she had some type of comment...... Yeah, moderators do that sometimes -- I agree with you that it gets annoying. I mean, it's not like there's any obligation for them to moderate the forums... Marxist ßastard
Mr. Shep, that's just the point... In order for you to have a thread such as this started, you should demonstrate that you have put more than an hour of work into the project -- especially in terms of pre-join information, which is what matters at the moment. Because of this, your request for members has failed miserably... because of this, also, Peregrine -- that "annoying moderator" you seem to pack so much antipathy for -- is pecking your eyes out. Perhaps if you explain just what type of work you need put into this project and why it's not doomed to failure (if you can convince me of this, you can convince anyone), the application-to-flame ratio will even out a little bit. Now begone; you've a lot of work and legal issues ahead of you before you can hope to attempt something of this sort again. ...And Peregrine, don't go too hard on him -- peoples' hatred for you comes and goes faster than a drive-through brothel. Peregrine
Shepmk, call it what you want, but it doesn't make my points any less true. Nobody is going to put any real effort into a mod project with no information or evidence of planning. Especially not any of the people with the skill you need, since there's enough help requests to last a few lifetimes. If you want to get useful help, you need to put some effort of your own into the mod. Let's see how you've done with those points in the pinned thread: 1) Define your project: nothing is more important than this. Tell exactly what you're trying to make. Show that you've put some effort and thought into your project already. If you don't have this definition, you're going to have a hard time convincing anyone you're serious about it, and you probably won't ever get beyond the initial "hey, I could make a mod" thought. Only the most basic explanation. Is this a total conversion? A small island? A house and a few NPCs? What is your storyline? From what you have posted, you don't seem to have put any thought into this. You're at the "hey, I could make a mod" stage, and nobody is going to waste time on your mod until you get past that. 2) Make your requests specific: don't just say "I need interior/exterior builders, scripters, modelers." Ask for specific things like "I need a sword model, and a script that does x." You've got a lot better chance of getting the help you want, and you're not wasting people's time by making them guess what you need. Not a word on this. How are people supposed to help you if you don't even state what you need? I'm a good modeler, but I don't know anything about scripting. Should I even bother signing up to help? Do you have any need for my talents? Every other person who looks at your project is going to have the same questions. One screenshot, a few sentences, and a forum rules post do not count. Why should anyone waste their time on your project when you haven't put even the slightest effort into it yet? 4) Use correct English: I know it's not everyone's main language, and everyone makes mistakes, but there's just no excuse besides laziness for stuff like "u" and 1337ish. If you don't take your project seriously enough to do this, why should anyone else? Ok, you didn't do so badly on this part. Your request thread hasn't really been up enough for this kind of post.
