exanimis
Are there any good tutorials that explain how to make non playable races?
exanimis
If you look at my other thread "NEW MAPS" you'll see that I have a huge world to fill and I am going to need three new races. I don't however want the player to be able to choose one of these as his/her character. I need a human type, a cave man type and a reptilian type race. Actually the cave man type will be skinned to a troll and doesn't have to speak. I like this forum and I've found it helpful but when it comes to actually modding something I have found that I am on my own. That is why I ask for information only. I will learn any program I need to make this happen but I could use a good tutorial Thanks for reading.
Khet
Hum... well, while I don't know much about getting animations and such done, if you plan on say just using the entire troll mesh/texture then you would just need to make a copy of the Troll race in the CS, change the ID and change it's name. Now, if you want to make an entirely new race like the imperials or red guard then all I know that you would have to do is make sure Playable is unchecked in the Text Info tab in the races menu. That prevents the player from choosing said race as player creation. If you're going to use custom meshes/textures for your races then a program such as Blender would be needed for the meshing, but I don't know how to work with something as complicated as full creatures or skeletons (the animation/joint skeleton, not the creature)
ihateregisteringeverywhere
There's no troll race. It's a troll creature. To make them work as a race you'd have load the trolls up into blender/max, import the human skeleton, and rig the trolls to that somehow. You'd probably also have to create head morphs for them. Not sure - I don't understand theese thing that much., but that'll allow you to have some varriety between the trolls. There's probably way much work than that, but you should be able to skip a few steps since you don't want the race playable.
wasder
Damn. I think an otter-man race would be cool.
exanimis
Thanks for the posts, the cave men will be new skins I'll put them on a troll skeleton so that they run on all four legs like the trolls do. I think I could make the race of humanoids now but the reptilian people are going to take quite a while I think. I'm going through a lot of tutorials trying to learn blender. I'll get it eventually but I sure would like to know what tutorials others used.
exanimis
OK, so I read a few more tutorials and created my new race. These guys are going to be cave men. They are strong, tough little guys. They will be the Goblins of Pellucidar so to speak. The problem I have is that they still act human. If I can't get them to walk and fight like trolls, can they at least walk hunched over like a goblin? Is there a way to do this? I have tried a forced animation token on them but was disappointed with the outcome. I just need them to be more cave man like and less human. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o108/crossbones59/Pellucidar/race.jpg Also, I was just wandering , before I go off to read a dozen more tutorials, is there a way to disable dialog in an entire race? These guys shouldn't do more than grunt.
