Complaint about stealth

As you may all know, stealth system was broken in Oblivion too... You would shoot an arrow to an enemy, the arrow would miss it and the arrow would fly right before the eyes of the enemy... But the enemy wouldnt notice the arrow literally flying near his eyes...

 

Yesterday I was in the trying to save the Reilly Rangers... There were 4 mutants in a room... I was sneaking, a mutant noticed me and said "What is that noise?" I stepped back and I was hidden again... The mutant made a move and I blew his face off with a combat shotgun... and noone heard the noise... of that shotgun... yes shotgun... I dont know if any of you fired a gun but guns make noise... too much noise... that is why we have silencers... I fired assault rifle before and believe me you can hear it from a mile...

 

To make matters worse, after I killed the first mutant, I aimed at another mutant with a sniper rifle... I was hidden again, a headshot combined with perks sniper, commando, better criticals... with luck 6, I blew another mutant head off... The mutant standing right beside him didnt even give a reaction! But they hear my foot steps! but they dont even hear the sniper rifle!!! So what is the purpose of silencer 10mm? I used to wait and wait to have my victim come close so I would step behind his back and shoot his head out with silenced 10mm, but it does not matter cause the gun sounds are undetectable by the AI...

 

I would like to see a mod fixing this and I want to ask the Bethsoft developers, have you ever played a stealth game before? like thief series, splinter cell series hell even fallout series... How can a developer or a codder who played any of the game mentioned come up with a system that is broken?

Aren't you playing FALLOUT 3? You know, from the fallout series you're asking the developers if they played?

Oh sorry I forgot the original developers were taking part in Fallout 3 project... the others inclulding the head of the former interplay team formed Troika and after a while the studio was closed down... They did some wonderful jobs like Arcanum and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines...

 

Anyway the developers did a great job but some aspects of the game is really lacking...

I agree. Stealth is completely broken.

I even went so far as to test the stealth-boy capabilities and using it in Megaton.

I walked up to the house of Billy Creel and snuck inside.

As I entered, Maggie (the little girl) was there and i decided to sneak past her into one of the other rooms.

She replied with "You know I can see you, right?"

 

My jaw hit the floor...

 

 

What's the point of having anything "Stealthy" when it's broken to all hell?

 

Please please please....someone fix this or patch it or someone release a mod to fix it all...

 

 

I'm considering holding off on my gameplay until 2 months AFTER a CS is released.

That way I can play the game with it being as realistic as possible...

I maxed out stealth but most of the time I become detected by neutral NPC's and get a sign danger by many of the enemies... But on one occation a wild dog came near me but couldnt see me, it was barking at me but I was hidden, I was right in front of it :)

At 100 Sneak I'm only detected when it's broad daylight and I'm right in front of them, or if I actually touch them.

 

I never used Sneak much in Fallout 1/2, but didn't the whole "no one notices the gun going off" thing happen there as well (assuming the creature being shot died in the first hit)?

 

I'm not saying it isn't broken/stupid/whatever, just that it's always been a problem.

 

Besides, there's only one silenced gun in the game, and it's crap.

 

If you insist on being realistically sneaky, there are a few steps you can take.

 

1. Don't use a Combat Shotgun. Use the Silenced 10mm Pistol or small melee weapons only. If you can't stop yourself from using other guns, that's really sad.

 

2. If you use a gun and you think everyone should "hear" it, stop Sneaking for a second so you're Detected and work from there.

 

3. Only kill people when they're alone. "Hide" the bodies afterward.

 

You get what you put into it. If you want a full-on Stealth simulation, put a little work in and be rewarded. Or play a different game.

In Oblivion I didn't like it that if they detected me (bright eye icon) i was about impossible to sneak away undetected again.

@ the OP: You realize that Emile worked at Ion Storm Austin on Thief 3 and Deus Ex Invisible War right? lol.. Yes they've played stealth game before.

 

Todd however has NEVER played Fallout or rather played Fallout 1.. played for 10mins got bored because it was turned based.. then turned on COD4 because he's a panzy ass %&$!er who's passed his glory days. Emile should be in charge of Fallout 4 IMO..

 

I agree with MacMert that the stealth system is MESSED UP, it'll only be a matter of time before a mod like Oblivion's stealth fixes will come out. I'd hope that sound will play a much bigger part in the game once modded.

that was later fixed in Tactics as I recall.

Hmmm... Both Thief III and Deus Ex invisible war were great games... But really really easy, I remember in Thief III when you shoot an enemy near another enemy, they would react :) The same thing occured in DeX Iw... But I guess it is about the game engine nothing else... I remember someone fixed this in oblivion by using the OBSE, I hope someone will patch it up...

 

As for the previous Fallout games, they were developed 10 years ago... I think today technology and scripting should allow the developers to come up with a more complicated stealth system :)

 

The only thing I can do right now is really roleplay myself... Otherwise I will continue to exploit this broken system again and again... :)

When I miss with a weapon while sneaking they always hear me.

They never notice when I kill their friends though.. A silencer should be a buyable component, very rare, and varying in sizes to make it harder for you to stealth kill with your favorite weapon. Some weapons could even lack silencers, such as Lincoln's Repeater and the alien blasters. Then again, I find energy weapons a bit more quiet, maybe they would be harder to detect.
