Kongy
If you were ever to defend the Imperial City against a powerfull foe, who came from the outside, what would you then do? Personally, I'd start out drafting all available hands, and then evacutating ALL of the civillians, who are not fit for fighting(Like women, and young children) I would place the bulk of my force, at the gates leading outside the city. The evacuated civillians would be lead outside the city, by the escape tunnel, lead by a small fighting force. Additionally, I'd send messengers to the other cities, in order to get reinforcements. I would also gather all the supplies, in the bastion, where I would place the rest of my men. I would also call ALL patrolling soldiers back to the city, to get more soldiers. All weapons and armour would be moved to the bastion, as well. Hireing mercenaries from fighters guild, would have course be an otpion. If the enemy happened to be too strong, to be kept outside the walls, I would immediatly fall back to the bastion, as it is by far the easiest possition to defend. From that possition, I would send a small group of soldiers out, to attack the enemy from behind, in order to create confusion. When the soldiers from the cities finally come, we will make a swift counterattack, and hopefully defeat them that way.
dezdimona
Call the legions back, shut the gates and prepare for seige!
pedantic
First, I'd put dezdimona's latest gif on a big screen in Green Emperor Way. Then I'd be able to kill them one at a time while they remained mesmerised and enchanted, lost in thought.
exanimis
I'd evacuate the city, steal a goblins shaman staff and leave it in the palace district. Then when the new force arrived I'd let the goblins take care of them. All I would have to do then is mop up the stragglers.
wasder
If you had warnings I would: Evacuate non-fighting fit people out somewhere.Cave in all sewer entrancesSend my character to gather decent equipment from bandits and my own personal armoury, that contains every type of weapon and armour in vanilla Oblivionprepare ballistas and other defensive mechanismsIC needs a double portcullis on every gate (as real castles did)Destroy the bridge.Give some uber-epic speech to rally the men.Wait... Thomas1616
What sort of numbers are we talking here? Are we talking a huge army against the city watch or do I have the considerable might of the legions at my disposal? In the first Scenario, I would draft able Civilians into a militia type thing whilst those not able to fight would be sent to the prison district so they could be quickly evacuated if things turned sour. Following this I would utilise the arcane university to its fullest extend and use the mages to bolster my forces. With my preparation complete I would split my force I two: The first half would defend the bridge as it is the main approach to the city and if I could hold that I would be fairly safe until reinforcements arrive. The rest of my troops would be left to man the walls, however I could keep the Palace guards I reserve should they breach the gates so I could respond by sending my elite troops to meet them so they would be unable to flood the city. Following that I would just have to hope that my plan holds until reinforcements arrive. But if I had the Legions at my disposal I would do things very differently. I would split me force into 3 parts. The first smallest part would be strong enough to be able to hold the bridge should they send men to the city. However with the second part I would wait for the near the Niben and use my cavalry to drive them towards me. With that done I would form up both parts of my army and take them form the rear with the third part and form the front with my second (the main bulk of my cavalry in the third part). With them Caught between my army on two sides and the Niben on another they would be rather trapped. But whilst this was happening my foresters would be raiding their supply train etcetera. With no supplies and their army trapped they would be forced to surrendur or die.
pedantic
If you were ever to defend the Imperial City against a powerfull foe, who came from the outside, what would you then do? One of the first rules of war is, know thine enemy. Can you give us a scenario here? Heavily armoured warriors would need to be kept outside the walls of the city and lightly armoured cavalry, archers etc, would be best dealt with at close quarters inside the city walls. On the other hand, an attack by powerful mages renders the walls useless. Fight fire with fire, and all that jazz...@Kongy - Precisely what foe are we talking here? Thomas1616
A force of invading Akaviri would seem likely. Although rebelling Dunmer is also a possibility. The Dunmer I would think, would be a heavily armoured force of primarily infantry, whereas I would think the Akaviri would be quite a fast army. Whilst I am not the TC there are two scenarios you could work with.
madman132
Why bother with a militia? The Pc is strong enough to beat any Amry of any size :P
Thomas1616
Someone just has to be all clever about it lol. Fine if you want to click on every soldier in an invading army and press 'kill' be my guest. I say 'kill' because 'killall' would kill your army as well which sort of defeats the point. :P
