humankeg
This isn't so much a tech question about CTD's as it is a request for help choosing MODs. After a several month break from Skyrim I come back and purchase the two new patches (DG and HF) and immediately start downloading a bunch of new mods. I try to stick with mods that have been updated recently (within the last month). That being said, there are lots of great mods out there, and I now have about 70 plug ins. My request is advice finding the mods that are currently CTD my game. Do any of you have specific manners you go about choosing your mods (to make sure they are compatible); is "cleaning the mod" with the Tes5edit tool usually enough to stop most CTD's (BOSS is saying I have about 20 mods that are "dirty"), ect. I am brand new to BOSS, and don't know at all how severe dirty mods are to game play/CTD. No time as of yet to learn how to clean them and then actually clean them (will be doing regardless though, and soon). For example: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23992 was causing my game to CTD even before reaching the main menu. Now I am CTD'ing as soon as I try to start a new game after removing this mod. I was for the last 90 minutes or so, disabling mods, starting the game, activing other mods, starting the game, ect, hoping I could find all the mods that are causing issues. WIth BOSS constantly re-arranging the order of mods (ones that are not activated are immediately put back into alphabetical order) I am almost at square one still. Am curious if there actually is a faster way to take care of this, and also if there are any particular patches that are mandatory to run mods, or patches that are highly recommended to stay away from. Thanks in advance. Edit: Also, using BOSS for the first time tonight. I have something along the lines of "Bash Tag suggestion(s): {{BASH: Delev, Relev}}" under several mods. I am guessing that I need to do something with this, and have no idea what. Edit x2: I have the H2K HD textures installed (loved them last time I played Skyrim) but also downloaded the new official texture patch from steam. I don't plan on keeping the one from steam, but could it possibly be a casue of CTD's (having both installed)? Don't even know if this h2k mod was installed or not. HighResTexturePack02.esp Active Checksum: D596F02A is listed in my BOSS mod list, but not sure if it is the official one off of steam. Aliera Caine
@humankeg: First, just letting you know that you have two cloaks esps active, when it states only one should be active. That might be a problem. Second, if you are having CTDs due to a mod or a mod conflict, disable the most likely suspects and test it. *Oh, I see you did try that.* Usually it is best practice to add mods onto your game one at a time, then test them to see if it works. Then you add another one.The bash patch notes are for WryeBash users.Having many house mods can be a problem for Skryim. I personally could not get Dragon Falls manor to play nice with another house mod that I loved. Perhaps TES5Edit could help. Or removing one or two from your lineup. I have yet to try it myself, but the time is coming for me. And you have a few quest mods. Many times these mods change exterior cells and you don't even know if they are conflicting with each other. Best to read those mod description pages carefully.Once you find a conflict and do make a change, you might need to wait (usually 30 days in game) in a non-respawning interior cell for Skryim cells to reset. There are mods that actually help with this like "No Boring Sleep Wait." Well, that's a start. I am certain someone else has better advice. Good luck! humankeg
As a quick update, I deleted every housing mod and the game is running great again. Guess I just have to be more picky with my homes :( Thanks again for the information Aliera. Edited November 13, 2012 by humankeg
