evilhyde
I've done some models and animations in UDK before, but don't know how the developers have this one setup. Just curious as to whether or not its currently possible to get custom models and animations in, I would love to make some new aliens.
PepprmintButler
AFAIK no, unfortunately nobody got that far yet. We still don't have the recipe to cook upks that the game would accept.I'd love to be proven wrong though ? Some awesome advances I'm not aware of ? Just curious as to whether or not its currently possible to get custom models and animations in, I would love to make some new aliens.  I've tried for about 2 weeks. Did you mean you have successfully gotten a model into a U3 engine game that was commercially published or that you have done models for UDK created games? If it's the former, I'd love to know how. When you say you don't know how the developers have this one set up what do you mean? The structure of the meshes and textures in the .upks files? Just looking for any help I can find, as I seem to have exhausted every avenue.
evilhyde
Oh no, I just meant I have done a basic custom level with animated custom mesh and packed it as an executable from the UDK, which is pretty standard. I have no idea how to handle a proprietary .upk from a published game like XCOM or anything.
evilhyde
Damn, I've got a model in mind I'm tempted to go ahead and work on, but it will probably be a waste. I have a bad feeling this will never get support from the developers. A shame too, so much potential here with new art.
Deleted2725050User
Just my 2 cents, but I'd say only do your models if you're going to get some personal satisfaction out of finishing them. I'm inclined to agree with you when you say that model replacing won't ever be supported, and I think it's due at least in part to the fact that it has too large a potential for reducing the demand for DLC.
