My ini's are messed up

Heyas Rogue! Ugh, sorry to hear about that. Bad news is tho, that somebody else's prefs.ini may not work very well on your system.

As they contain the game settings.

Easiest thing to do, would be to delete the .ini files, or move them out of the folder, or just rename them to fallout4prefsborked.ini or something along those lines. Then launch the game through the fallout4launcher.exe That will cause the game to rebuild the ini files, and then you can reset your preferences in the game settings menus.

Generally, I make it a rule to backup my files. Usually my save games, and the game install folder. But, since those ini files are in the same general area as the saves, when I do my backups, I usually just save the entire MyGames folder. It's Not a bad habit to have ;)

Hope this helps ;)

Heyas Rogue! Ah, I see. Ok, so what I would recommend here, is do your backup of the ini files. Cut or copy them to another folder. Cut is fewer steps.

If you copy them, delete them from your fallout folder in the documents folder.

Let the game reinstall/rebuild them.

Now open the new ones in notepad documents side by side with the old ones so that you can compare the two. You can then copy and paste settings from the old ones, to the new ones, and do game testing.

Now granted, in this picture, I'm using two completely different .ini files. Which is NOT what I'm talking about doing. But this will demonstrate what I'm talking about, so that you can compare the two versions of the same ini file.

I hope this helps

Edit - some of these settings may have been added to the custom ini as well, so make sure to backup and cross check that one as well. That one is the master override. Anything that is the custom ini will override settings in the other ini files.
