Hi guys.

Still a beginner in modding and the Creation Kit so would apprechiate some help.

I just finished converting a custom high poly head and body model into Fallout 4 including bone weights and textures. I will continue converting some eyes, eyebrows, teeth, hair etc in a few days.

I now want to make it into a custom race as I just want the female protagonist to use the custom meshes while the normal npcs should stay as is. Unfortunaly I didnt find much information on it anywhere, just a guide onto custom races for Skyrim that i tried to follow plus I tried looking into some esp's of custom races that already exist.

Unfortunaly having some problems with it though.

Would somebody be so nice to just explain to me the steps id need to take to make it work and appear ingame?

My main problem is that the head doesnt appear ingame even though i linked the mesh and tri file as a new HeadPart and linked it within the RaceEntry.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Nina. I'm sorry that you're not getting any info back on this.

I will be the very first person to admit that I don't know the mechanics of how to fix this. I only know that any mod that uses the human female (or male) meshes and/or textures is going to extend that to the other humans of the same gender.

You may want to look at mods like Unique player https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3718 to see if you might be able to reverse engineer how they've gotten around that problem.

the heads tho, I'm afraid I have no idea :(

I know that these aren't definite answers, but maybe it will help in the right direction.

Good luck :)

hey, I was the guy helping you with this on Facebook. I cant remember if I asked, but, are your headparts made to use custom race? or are they human race?

It is area that asks for valid race.

If you send me your esp and meshes/textures, I can take a look at it. its probably something simple, but there is so many things it could be that I would need to write a novel of questions to you.

There's not much information because.. there's simply no documentation on this, period.

I remember myself trying to make a custom race - I eventually did it, but there were a lot of questions and issues I ran into, not all of them solvable - and to educate yourself on the matter, you will need:

  • .. Download existing race mods and see how they work. Preferably in low-level tool like FO4Edit because to observe the patterns without being constrained by CK interpretation
  • .. Try - fail - retry. Some stuff just doesn't work despite what one would expect (and even if it's documented in the CK Wiki - lacking as it is) and some stuff will work differently. There's no way around it
  • .. Take note that some of the stuff is hard-coded to the HumanRace record. Now, I mostly mean mods like LM / LMCC (aka "beauty" mods). If you will want to make your race compatible with existing mods - it's not even always possible

In some cases your best bet is just "do as in mod X and see if it works". There's unfortunately no better answer here. Races in Fallout4 - if done properly - are a huge headache.
