Fallout 3 Crash on Startup

I'm currently running Fallout 3 GOTY with a number of mods, including FWE and MMM. Up until today, I've had little or no problem.

Until now.

Now the game crashes when I try to start it. Mainly when the mouse pointer would appear.

Crash on start-up is the result of one of two things. Improper installation or inadequate equipment. Since the System Requirements of the game call for a processor with a clock speed of 2.4GHz and yours is 1.86GHz. This coupled with a low performance video card will result in continued problems. The best solution is to upgrade your equipment to meet the minimum requirements of the game.

I have about 212 plugins running simultaneously. It took quite a bit of work to get to the point where everything was running right, dependantly, etc.

In the process I discovered just how indispensable FO3Edit is! If you don't already have it installed, grab it and do so. Then kick the application off. In just the process of starting up, it will evaluate your plugins and their order and soon as it finds a problem, will fail and provide you with details you can use to determine where the problem lies. It's then just a question of taking direction from the results, and making the necessary changes, then restarting the utility to move onto the next potential issue.

And on, and on, until you no longer receive any fails and FO3Edit completes it's initialisation successfully.

If you get to that point, chances are your game will then run ok.

Do yourself and favour and install the Fallout 3 Configator as well - it allows you to tweak graphics / sound / performance settings with far more detail and flexibility than otherwise possible (or practical). This is particularly important when running an under-powered rig. :)
