Weapon choice

  1. 1. Out of any combination of weapon types, what do you like to wander around the waste causing destruction with?

    • Pistols. Nothing beats a quick to the trigger gunslinger.
    • Assault Rifles. GET TO DA CHOPPA!
    • Rifles and Carbines. If you see me, its too late.
    • Blunt Weapons. Because braining someone is simply simple enough.
    • Mechanical Melee. Chainsaws, rippers, cement saws, things that would make a grown man wet his pants.
    • Hand to Hand weapons. If Bruce Lee can take on 20 guys with his bare hands, so can you.
    • Blades. The way of the Wasteland Samurai... or ninja... or slasher
    • Big Guns. Let them know you mean business.
    • Missile weapons and explosives. Because you wanna hit them, and everyone around them.
    • Computer Weapons. Go Forth My machines and do my bidding!

For me, plasma-based rifles and pistols are my favorite. Hard-hitting, accurate, and dependable (so long as they're maintained), they can rarely be beat by normal, bullet and slug-based weapons. Ironically, my favorite energy-based rifle - and my favorite weapon of all - is a unique item only found in a certain place off the Mojave in a DLC add-on. Keeping the thing maintained is expensive - the 'unique' part means not even the Jury Rigging perk will let you repair it - but with the high damage it does, it's probably staying in my inventory until the end of the game!

I'm a big fan of conventional firearms, especially sniper designated rifles and carbines. I never leave my shack without my scoped/suppressed Hunting Rifle in .260 Remington, or a Marksman Carbine/All American.

I usually have an SMG and a pistol as well, so I can share ammo between the two. At present it's a 1911 and an HK UMP in .45

I'll bring a machete or a Kukri for pests like mantis, rats, or bloatflies. They aren't worth the bullets to me.

You actually forgot one other weapon: Shotguns

I've always loved using the shotguns (as evident from the fact that most of my weapon mods are shotguns). NV has so many different ammo types available for any situation it makes the shotgun the perfect weapon for me.

Right after the shotgun would be a pistol preferably in a big caliber like the .45 or 10mm.

For the first time in my longgggggggg history of playing this game I have decided to start an Explosives based character, and I feel left out that I did not start one sooner! I love the massive amounts of damage that can be done over large areas with explosives. I love how crafting your own explosives seems to add into the whole rugged wasteland warrior concept of Fallout too. Especially when using particular crafting mods!

Making a mine out of a mini-nuke: enough said. :)

I just can't wait to start a sneaky explosives expert, so that I can stealthily kill a great deal of people with some timed explosives.

This is a great idea, but not for roleplayers like myself. Cause in the end, whatever character I play gets to determine what weapons they use, and in what context. In Fallout 3, April St. Vincent fights with whatever weapon she can improve with. Her brother Brian prefers rifles, if they were available (and they might), he would have the 5mm Hunting Rifle M variant from New Vegas World of Pain. In New Vegas, Dr. Charlotte Merriweather prefers her original .223 (That Gun) up close, a katana if all else fails, and a missile launcher for large game, or loads of powder gangers. Theresa Miller prefers a custom weapon I've made which is a hyberbreeder made to look like a 45 auto with a 9mm scope, and failing that, a Riot Shotgun with slug loads. What they feel is what I play outside of Steam Challenges.

My personal favorite weapons? The ones that are the most fun with me as a player? Grenades in the open and missiles everywhere else. I love explosions, but blowing up infantry in close quarters combat with a missile launcher sends that right message of both schadenfreude of one's enemies and the futility of struggle against my will. The missile launcher is a sign of total disregard for the lives of the enemy, and will to their total domination.
