Hearthfire - New Buildings Challenge

Greetings forum dwellers. After downloaded the Hearthfire DLC, I like many of you was somewhat disappointed. While it was a good mod in theory, in application I personally found it pretty lacking.

 

So the question is, how can we make it better?

 

My proposal is that you talented modders out there figure out how to make it possible to build different types of buildings on these pieces of land. Perhaps rather than a manor house, you just want a large stone tower. Or perhaps you wanted to build a simple blacksmith shop. Can such a thing be possible? I challenge you, dear modders, to find out.

 

As a bonus quest, I would also like to propose that there should be a shipbuilding location somewhere in the game. At this location, you would be able to build a customizable boat to live in.

 

Anyway, this thread is my wishful thinking about what could have been.

I have to agree with that. I do enjoy the Hearthfire DLC but I certainly hope to see some of these incredibly talented modders work some magic.

I could be totally wrong, but I believe the CK needs to be updated for HF/DG, probably why there's a lack of mods for them so far.

 

I too hate the limitations on the enchanters tower/greenhouse/alchemy tower combo which just doesn't seem to exist.

 

There's a lot of things that could be done, like configurable guards outside (Draugr, Mercs, Archers, Dogs, whatever).

You may be right. I was able to open the Hearthfires master file in the Creation Kit by adding the hearthfires.bsa to the skyrimeditor.ini file. And then I tracked down the location of Lakeview Manor near Falkreath. But looking at it, I have no idea how to make any changes that would function properly.

 

But I don't have much experience with the editor. My hope is that somebody out there can figure it out.

EDIT:

 

On futher inspection, it looks like they have each part of the house attached to a crafting trigger. So when you activate the workbench or drafting table, it runs the BYOHWorkbenchscript. And each piece of the house is set to be initially disabled. When completing a portion of the house, it runs another script called DLCHouseExteriorFinishRoomScript.

I'd be happy to just be able to choose from all the expansions for each side of the house instead of just the stock three choices. I prefer the bedroom and kitchen for the extra beds and the oven but the choices that are left for the third side don't really appeal to me. Opening it up to be able to build whatever expansion you want on whatever side of the house you want would be a welcome addition. Like the previous poster noted it is script based and so far beyond my expertise.

HILARIOUS. I had just finished asking the Mod Discussion Board if anyone had seen a mod like this and had strolled over here to suggest this. LOL

 

I would also like to be able to build a servants quarters and have other hirelings, like a cook or groom for your horse.

 

Perhaps also the ability to have banquets in your new home, provided that you have the kitchen (and a cook), or at least have guests.

 

I also would like to see better roads to your house. Especially Windstrad .
