Better hunting

I got this idea when i saw how bad crossbow hunting looks in skyrim. I know there are a lot of mods related to hunting, but I couldnt find one like that. They mostly just increase prices on trophies.

My idea is:

- new hit areas for deer and other game animals, a hit in each of them would have different effect (like slowing them down, immobilizing, bleeding or killing outright).

- tougher and more diverse beasts, maybe access to planes of oblivion where you could hunt the most dangerous game

- arrows and bolts pierce animal skin and flesh better. in vanilla bolts look like they are glued to animal skin by their tip, held in place by an unknown force.

- a perk tree for hunters to make it more rewarding, preferably with crafting of different bone and leather armor (bear, deer, sabrecat). They could offer some additional resistance to frost. bone figurines held as charms in new inventory slots, bone necklaces etc. Also, bow and small knife crafting.

- new crafting materials from beasts.

I know, its chaotic, but looks fun and skyrim could use some improvement in hunting.

EDIT 1:

The skill would be called hunting. Increases only when crafting related items, damaging beasts or damage made in werewolf form

the perk tree would be divided in two subtrees, one focusing human form, the other on werewolf, sometimes interjecting for passive perks.

new spells:

Hicirnes guidance

Highlights tracks that lead to the closest beast (like clairvoyance)

Hicirnes blessing(power)

Gain (1,5 x hunting) health and stamina

Hicirnes aid

Conjure a spectral follower to aid you in combat. The follower depends on hunting level.

some perk ideas:

Leap

In werewolf form, lunge forward knocking down most opponets in the way. Cost half stamina, cooldown 15 seconds

Feast

In werewolf form, sneak behind a humanoid opponent to rip open his throat and gain taste for blood without triggering its cooldown. Additionally corpses eaten in werewolf form increase its duration by 30 seconds, up to 1:30 per transformation and heal twice as much health.

Razor sharp

Using your claws in combat, with each unblocked normal attack you stack a bleeding effect on target ( max 3 stacks ) that also reduces its movement speed

Bear's strength

Your power attacks in werewolf form cost more stamina but when blocked have a 33/66/100% chance to knock your enemy down

Wolfman

Werewolf transformation cooldown is reduced to X minutes, and its duration increased by X seconds.

Hardened skin

Your armor in werewolf form is increased by 25/50%

The hunter

While transformed, you gain half the bonuses from hicirnes blessing

Thrill of the hunt

The closer you are to your pray, the faster you move

Taste for blood

(1/3) After killing an opponent you gain 5% more damage for 5 seconds

(2/3) additionaly, time is slowed by 15%

(3/3) Adrenaline reduces damage taken by 10%.

Cools down when exiting combat.

Manhunt

Open season for humanoids. Humanoids are now game animals.

Dragonslayer

Dragons are now game animals.

child of hicirne

Gain access to hicirnes blessing, guidance and aid spells

Craftsmanship (5 levels)

hunting gear crafting (light armor: deer, wolf, sabre cat, bear, bone)

Splendor

Additional crafting materials from all game animals

Camouflage

While wearing full matching set of huntsman armor your sneak and sneak speed are increased by 10/20/30%

The Chase

When struck by a movement impairing effect, you are instantly freed and gain immunity to any following slows and snares for the next 5 seconds. 20 second cooldown.

The Great Game

5/10/15% more damage to all game animals

Insulation

While wearing full set of huntsman armor, you gain 5/10/15% frost resistance

Aspect of Strength

Hicirnes blessing gains bonus damage

Aspect of Speed

Hicirnes blessing gains bonus movement speed, atack speed and stamina regen.

Aspect of Guile

Hicirnes blessing gains bonus critical chance

I love hunting and i've always wanted to make a better hunting mod and i tried but found out my ideas were to complex for my own skill in modding. Everything you stated is fairly easy to do except:

  •
  • You can not make your own skill tree yet... you can change and rename an old one and add as many perks as you like but the background image stays the same and i think the way you obtain experience points stays mostly the same.

  • Hit boxes.... i don't even know if you can edit those but that would be really cool

  • Creating models and textures for all the new items you want animals to drop (lots of people can do this but personally i have no experience making models and texturing)

  • Making animations for all of the werewolf attacks. making animations is pretty hard (once again... some other people can do it but i cant and its harder to find people that can make animations then people that can model items...)

  • Hicirnes guidance... I actually have had a mod like that in planning for a while and i just recently thought of an idea on how to maybe get that to work... if i get it to work ill let you know :P

  • Most Werewolf spells....

Personally I wouldn't include to much of the werewolf stuff because their are PLENTY of werewolf mods and i don't really see hunters using werewolf to hunt... but that's just my own opinion.

I liked the idea of the "in season" things to hunt so maybe you could actually have a hunters bar or guild place that has a bunch of shrines that allows you to pick which creature is in "season". When the creature is "in season" then you get bonus crits on that type. The shrines would be like the other shrines in the game but you may only have 1 hunting blessing at a time and it wont replace your other blessings from normal shrines. This is just an idea to free up some space on that skill tree because it would be pretty cluttered.

Unfortunately like i said before, you cant make your own skills so your skill tree would have to share its place with another (archery makes sense) or just completely delete a skill tree you don't plan on using and rebuild it with your new perks (blocking? i NEVER use blocking). You can rename skill trees too so "Archery" can become "Hunting" and so on. Only problem is that if you replace a skill tree with your new one, lets say blocking, then you cant get rid of the giant shield in the background.

I hope this helped a little and maybe someone with good modding skills will take up this challange.

I was using T3ndr0s Skyrim Redone for quite some time and its possible to delete an entire tree, just like you said, you never used blocking, I myself never used speechcraft, lockpicking or pickpocket.

About the werewolf stuff - it just felt right, Hicirne is the most interesting and least developed daedric prince in TES. And according to this and a quest in skyrim he is the one responsible for were-beast diseases, and takes some pleasure in seeing those afflicted hunt and be hunted. Seems like a good idea to join those two to make it more rewarding for the player, also making it quite interesting gameplay-wise. The human hunter would be quite fragile and definetly prefer ranged combat, while werewolf form could help the player deal with heavily armored/shielded opponents and mages.
