WhiteGlovian
I go to load the game from the launcher, directly, or through NVSE and it doesn't even load. You could wait 5 minutes and it still won't load. I use a crappy work laptop, with a Radeon 7600 graphics card. I tried enabling 4GB, same result. I've modified the INI to the best of my abilities, same result. This started happening today(1/25/2020, est. 6:35PST). As I am writing this, it has been 4 hours of me repeatedly and intensely trying to get my game to finally load.It started because my game froze due to my mouse turning off, and I had to press the power button to turn it off. It did NOT work since.I have tried:Uninstalling & ReinstallingD3D9.dllCompatibility ModeVerifying FilesLaunching from launcher, steam launcher, directly, and through NVSErestartingChanging the INIAll of my mods are OLD. dubiousintent
In general, if you haven't changed anything about your game and it suddenly stops working correctly you need to look to other causes: such as software updates to Windows, programming libraries such as ".Net", or hardware drivers. Older games eventually get dropped from product testing, and you have to revert to an older version of a driver. It is also possible you are having problems with your hard drive. It never hurts to run "chkdsk" and an anti-virus scan. FYI: If you recently had a Windows system update, you only have 10 days to revert to the previous version if you decide to choose that option. You should only use the "Launcher" if you need to have the game detect hardware changes. Otherwise use the "FNV4GB Patcher" modified game "FalloutNV.EXE" (which automatically detects and launches NVSE) or NVSE directly. Please see either the 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' or the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' sections in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. -Dubious-
WhiteGlovian
Yeah, Windows made no changes either. Nothing changed, it just suddenly stopped working after I booted up the computer. On top of that chkdsk won't run properly, it'll close without checking the disk or anything. Not to mention that I don't see my problem listed on the wiki. I'll try a few things I haven't already done and see if it works.EDIT: I've tried multiple solutions, nothing changed. Is it possible I need the default INIs? I'm starting to think both the ones in Documents and the Steam folder are corruptedI have 136 plugins, including every DLC. I'll try to see if the game just has too many plugins to run--it was constantly CTDing for about a week or two. WhiteGlovian
Edit 2: it only loads from Nexus. Is there a fix for this?3: NVSE won't load from it, though. Even though I fixed the directory Edited January 26, 2020 by solluxxy
WhiteGlovian
Not working at all anymore, fixed the INI still doesn't work. Lessening mods also doesn't work. Removing all mods doesn't work either.
GamerRick
Bring up the Task Manager with CTL-ALT-DEL. Check to see if an instance of the game's exe (FalloutNV.exe *32) file is already running. If so, right-click on it and choose End Process. Report back.
dubiousintent
Sounds like you are trying to run "chkdsk" from the command prompt. You can run it from the Windows GUI (actually from the "File Explorer") as explained here. If you run "chkdsk" on the "C:" drive, it will not be able to immediately scan because the drive is in use by Windows. (This will also apply to any other drives that may be in use, though it may offer to "force close" them in order to immediately scan.) So it schedules to run the next time you reboot the system. That would be an actual "power reset" and not merely a reload of the "hibernation file". If you are using a hibernation file then you need to disable it first. I'm harping on that because it certainly sounds like you are experiencing a disk drive problem. At the very least you need to eliminate that as a potential issue or you are just making things worse. Have you created a "Windows Recovery Drive" and/or "Installation Media"? (This can be placed on a USB or CD of at least 16GB capacity.) If not, do so immediately. You can then run "chkdsk" from that. -Dubious-
WhiteGlovian
I found out what the issue was. It was the Steam Loader DLL that came with NVSE.However, the game now crashes after the TTW splash finishes loading. I checked Vortex, FNVEdit, and LOOT for answers as to why, say, a missing master being the problem. However, I am missing no masters, but one is "inactive." There is NO way to enable it because it is the default:FalloutNV.esmWhat do I do?
dubiousintent
Congrats on resolving that. (Just curious: was it a bad copy of the DLL or something else? Haven't encountered that cause before.) You can get a "missing master" error if your "load order" is badly sorted. Even one file is enough. Be aware that an "inactive" plugin in the game "Data" folder (even if it is not in your "profile") will get loaded. Please see the "Missing Masters" wiki article. BTW: TTW still requires you have a stable base FNV setup. Make sure you can get into the base game without trouble before adding TTW. -Dubious-
