game crashes after removing armor

I have been playing for several years and this has never happened. When I remove anything from my body (clothes, armor) the game crashes. I can replace clothes with armor no problem. Any thoughts?

I'm a skyrim SE player so take this with a grain of salt (saw your query on the right side bar)

 

It sounds like there might be an issue with your unclothed torso.

 

Reasoning: when armor or clothing is equipped we're not really donning a piece of armor or clothing and putting it on our "naked" bodies, we're swapping out the naked body for whatever is being used for the "clothed body" with the armor or clothing... ie we swap out for wearing AmoredBody or ClothedBody, as the case may be. "Removing the armor" means swapping the "armoredbody" (a body AND its fitted armor/clothing) out for "NakedBody" (or whatever passes for "naked" in your game ... might be never nude, might not be)

 

I hope you see what I'm getting at. I'm having a hard time expressing it in a clear and concise manner...

 

As to why that might happen, I'm not sure (I could speculate but you can probably make the same leaps...some skeleton reference in the naked body, a texture issue in the naked body, the meshes for the naked body got dinked somehow...). but it's worth a look.

 

In any case, good luck. I hope you find the answer quickly and with little effort. (and if so, please post back with the solution... I'm curious, as who knows it could affect me at some point, even though I'm using a different version of skyrim)

Not sure it helps much, but it's possible to try to determine whether there are specific body parts that are causing the crash... To take clothes off one by one.
