Arithmetik
Hi, First I'm already aware there are many threads about that subject but I never really found the answers satisfying so I'll just post my version of the question. Which combat mods you prefer? So far I've seen some...- Duel Combat Realism- Deadly Combat- ACE (Combat Module)- SkyRe (Combat module)- Duke Patrick's Combat Mod You know, when I advanced through Oblivion, I'd have liked my first game (the one where you discover the world) to be way more difficult, to extend the pleasure... I found combats were way too easy and were a bunch of hack n slashes, plus most of the time it was easy to kill ennemies just by slowly backing up and waiting for your ennemy to attack, then after he missed you, just come back on him and slice him... So far things seem pretty similar to Oblivion, so I'd like to not make this mistake twice and start from the beginning with something making things more difficult. So far Duel seems to be interesting for A.I., however when you block with shield you don't get any health loss, which I find makes it quite easy.Deadly combat comes with a lot of scripts, seems interesting. A.I. does not seem as tweaked as in Duel tho... I see lots of scripts also, which seems to make it... idk, maybe more complete??? The others, I haven't tried yet... I fear taking Duke Patrick's will unbalance the game and make it way too much difficult... so yeah, I'm confused. Anyone have tried some of them for some time and does it work well? Have you also found combinations to work good? Thanks! Arith Edited November 19, 2012 by Arithmetik
Riprock
Doesn't Duel have more settings that do what you want?
Arithmetik
I doubt. In fact Duel comes right out of the box without possibility to change it's settings. It's a one piece.
IsharaMeradin
I doubt. In fact Duel comes right out of the box without possibility to change it's settings. It's a one piece. And that is what I like about Duel. I like my mods to work without me having to change things. Duel can be rough on melee if you aren't that experienced at this type of combat or even the controls used. What Duel does for me is it makes it important to hone my sneak attack skills because if I tip off my presence even if they don't see me they will be looking for me for a very very long time. Which the upside is that stealth can level fairly quickly. Thanks to the uncapper mod I don't have to worry about gaining levels because stealth goes up. I would say try each one individually on a new game and decide for yourself. I settled on Duel cause I didn't need to do anything. I don't need or want the bells and whistles of customization in game etc...
Arithmetik
@IsharaMeradin: And you appreciate the level of difficulty it gives you, even when you are at very high levels and wear strongs armors and such? Have you also tried DeadlyCombat?!
IsharaMeradin
@IsharaMeradin: And you appreciate the level of difficulty it gives you, even when you are at very high levels and wear strongs armors and such? Have you also tried DeadlyCombat?!I'm not that good at the combat to even need something beyond the stock settings. The problem when reaching high levels isn't my character having strong gear, but the scaling of enemies stops. When I reach higher levels (if the mods & the game would stable out and let me play without having updates) I will most likely add on a mod which affects the scaling of enemies. For me personally, when most players who play on Master say that they need a particular combat mod for a challenge. I stay away. I still play on adept. This is my first TES game, my first game with these types of controls so I'm not as comfortable as others are and I don't need anything that is going to be really difficult. Duel for me is less about changing my playstyle and more about making the enemies smarter. Before they'd all just attack and many times get in each other's way. Now they (to me) work more as a group (when they are in a group). All I can say is try the different mods out and decide what works best for you. Arithmetik
Yes the increased AI is really something interesting, for that I vouch. However, no locationnal damage, no timed block (that is a rly nice feature from DC), no stamina decrease when you attack, no damage if u block with shield (or almost not any), etc etc.In fact DC without Hardcore damage makes me desire more, ahhh... I wish I could enable both but obviously they'll conflict especially on the staggering part. Well, if anyone ever tried both deeply tell me. DP seems also interesting but unstable from what Ive read (a big work in progress, and relies on SKSE, which is not perfected yet).
