odasama
[sOLVED] Good day everyone! here's my problem: I played the game on a XP computer for a while and little by little added a few mod to enjoy it even more.Recently, I bought a new rig, worling with Seven and wanted to continue my game.I made a copy of the game folder on a drive, since there were mods installed in it. So i reinstalled the game and took my old save to mygames/fallout NV.When i start the game, my saves and autosaves are here, but to play them, since they rely on different mods, i need them first or things would get messy ingame. First i tried to simply copy my old data folder over the nex one, without replacing previously installed files, just adding the missing one.after that, the games crashes and refuse to start. Then, i tried getting most of my mods back, using the links to nexus mods i saved as favorites on my old computer.there was some but not all of them, so the game started, those few mods were installed correctly, but i still couldn't load my save, since i iddn't have all my content. So i compared the data folder of my newly installed and partially modded NV with my old fully modded NV to see mhich files i was missing.but even that way, i can't find them using the names of the .esp even though i know i downloaded all of them on nexus and nowhere else. Is there anyway i can get this to work?i can't play with my old folder, it crashes at start which is normal i guess since i just took it "as is" from my old computer so there must be missing related folders needed to make it work.is there a way to use my lod data folder to get all my mods back?or to find with my save the mods i waqs using? i'm lost here Edited November 23, 2012 by odasama
JimboUK
If you still have the old data folder you used on XP then delete the new one and replace it with the old one, your saves should now work.
odasama
I tried that, but the games prompt me that "the program has ceased to function" and it crashes.i tried it with activating all my mods in the launcher and without activating any, apart of course from the basic one installed with the game that are enabed from the begining like blood money.esp, since i played that addon. actually, i dn't have trouble using my save, it is here, the game recognize it, but since i played using added content, if i start it the game would be messed up.to begin with, my character wuld be missing its meshes and textures and the house i last saved in wouldn't be here.the game might simply crash from all those missing files. what i want to do is to find out exaclty which content i used and get it a again for my fresh unmodded data folder you see? if i don't get those mods back, i can't play my old save and i wouldn't want to begin a new game, i liked the one i had. thanks for you help anyway jim_uk, much aprecated. JimboUK
That's very odd, I've been swapping data folders in and out since Morrowind without issue. Are you moving the old ini's back in along with the saves? that could cause all sorts of issues with a new OS. Edit: Try deleting (or renaming) the ini files in the My Games/FalloutNV folder, see if that helps.
odasama
No, deleting the ini files does not help. there's somlething i would like to know, i currelty have two data folder, new one and old one. If i want to place the old one in the game folder how should i proceed? do i totally delete the new one (with a backup just in case)?do i copy/paste with overwriting files?or do i copy/paste without overwriting files? i would like to be sure i do things correctly

Delete those INI files in your documents again afterwards to make sure nothing remains from the new one.
odasama
hi, i may have some news here since i saved some links to my old mods on nexus, i tried getting them into the new game data,it already tried this week and it didn't cause any problem with the game.this time though i add a few more files and the game crashed like it does when i try to use my old data folder. so maybe the problem is coming from the old folder itself, maybe one or more than one of the installed mods does not work on seven, maybe because it is an old mod, or it needs an update.i know the mods doesn't conflict with each other, so the problem could be an outdated or not compaptible mod. how could i search for it?is there some kind of log created upon a crash in fallout NV? i don't know enough on the mods themselves to search with the .esp names, as they are not all named after the uploaded name here on nexus. for exemple, i have a mod adding a few AK47 to the game, and i have that AK47.esp but when i search for a file called AK47 in nexus there is none. in fact the only information i can get is using the FOMM with my old data folder to get the names of all the mods installed, even though i can't look them up on nexus.maybe i could post them here so it could ring a bell to someone? JimboUK
Load up FNVEdit, if there is an issue with one of the mods that should throw up and error or warning http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34703
odasama
I found a solution: This time i searched how to prevent the game to crash on launch instead of how to get the mods to work.I found different links, one in particular point to a d3d9 patch for next gen nvidia cards on nexus. At first it didn't work. Then, the more i looked at the new game folder the more i though something was odd. And indeed, my old game folder contained more files than the new one. So i started over, installed the game anew, put my old data folder in, then updated it to 1.7 and new vegas, and finally d3d9.dllThen i added fallout NVSE from nexus as well that was also present in my old game folder. Now the game is working just fine. It will probably crash at some point but it's new vegas that's just a standard issue. Anyway thanks for the help and Kudo to you jim_uk!
