kysisthebard
PC Stats--Windows 7 64 bit--500 GB Harddrive--4 GB Ram--Intel Core 2 Duo Version--Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition--Bought from Gamestop, Download rather than Disk--Patch is 1.04 Error Message--AWC.dll (top bar)--The game cannot launch because of a misconfiguration. Please uninstall and reinstall your game. (main text)--When I click play, my computer thinks for a moment, and then this pops up and the launcher closes. I bought DAOUI yesterday, because I've played this game on the 360 like crazy, but I missed modding and wanted more content. So I got it from Gamestop's PC Download game store thing. I had some issues downloading it, because of sucky internet in the first two locations I was at, so I paused, went home, tried again. Got it to download (took 2 hours total) and then it unpacked and downloaded (about an hour and a half). I have DAModder, but I have yet to install mods, because I wanted to make sure the game worked before I applied anything, make backups, etc. No dice. It popped up with that error box. I did a few searches, discovered that some people said editing the registry to show the product code in the right spot would fix the problem. Nothing. Others said that messing with the config setups would make that go away. Nothing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (yay another nearly four hours gone from my life). Nothing. I also tried running the EAAccessInstaller, running it in \s \dir and modifying the target, and nothing. I'm getting frustrated. Really, really frustrated. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would greatly appreciate any help. ~kysis
LemmingoftheGDA
Step 1: Curse at your computer and all else. It has been scientifically proven that cursing and yelling does alleviate frustration. Step 2: Before doing anything else make absolutely sure you have installed the latest PhysX software:http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.0613-driver.html Do this no matter what kind of graphics card you have. The game requires this software no matter what. Step 3: Rerun the installer, if possible rerun as the administrator. Good luck.
kysisthebard
Cursed computer many times: check. I think I had that one covered already. XD Made sure to install PhysX. Already had it, but redid it anyway just to make sure. Reinstalled. Still getting the same error. x_x
LemmingoftheGDA
Would even this workaround work for you? Start the EACoreServer.exe in the Dragon Age/bin_ship folder manually and run daorigins.exe immediately after that.
LemmingoftheGDA
It really sounds like the awc.dll is an error in your windows. You can put into google "fix awc.dll" and try some things. I got nothing after that. Again, the very best of luck to you.
Thandal
1. BACKUP the file "EACore_apps.ini" (path varies depending on 32-, or 64-bit version of Windows.)2. Open ("Edit") the file.3. Delete the entire contents of the file.4. Save the file (same name).5. Try to play the game. If it works, then great! If not, restore the backed-up version. (Thanks to Dateranoth on the BSN for the solution! )

(Thanks to Dateranoth on the BSN for the solution! ) I just tried that solution about ten minutes ago. I am still getting the same error. I think I'm going to completely uninstall and try installing again. And then trying this one again. x_x It just sucks that downloading it through Origins or the GamestopApp takes over two hours. I've been googling every variation of this problem possible. Tried deleting, tried the modification of the file, tried launching the EACoreServer and then immediately doing the daolauncher, and I still get the same error message. Thank you guys so much for your suggestions. Hopefully something will work.
LemmingoftheGDA
Do you have the awc.dll file in your sysWow64 directory? Maybe try http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?awc
kysisthebard
I finally got in contact with EA. Surprise surprise, they told me to uninstall and reinstall Origin and try again. I did that. Now I'm getting a new error window when I try to launch. Is it too much to ask just to be able to play this darn game? (I decided to go ahead and attach the error window I got. I wish it listed a specific problem.)
Kajana
Wanted to say that I just encounted this problem. I've had DAO ultimate edition downloaded from Gamestop since August, been happily modding ever since. I installed the toolset and without even opening it got this same error on the game. No idea why, but there it is. Tried the fix Thandal listed credited to Dateranoth on BSN and it worked perfectly! Thank you very much, Thandal for finding and posting it. Thank you ever so much, Dateranoth for figuring it out. And Thank you to LemmingoftheGDA for being generally helpful. Maker smile upon you.
