Tundrastrider
And here I thought RPGs were about playing a character. But what separates one character from another in a game? The player. You know what I miss? The sense of 'Oh, god, what the hell is going on here?' that was so prevalent in Morrowind. The Sixth House were all over the place and different groups would tell you different versions of their story and the whole thing was steeped in forboding and uncertainty. The dragons never feel like a lurking threat in Skyrim. They're just big wildlife. Were they to periodically show up and incinerate a whole village now and again, leaving a trail of death and ruin behind them a la Helgen, then I'd feel like my character's actions really mattered. That's why I was so pleased on my most recent game when, just as I was walking to the inn for a rest after the fight near Kyne's Grove, a blood dragon showed up and slaughtered most of the village's population before we brought it down. It provides an actual sense of jeopardy. Edited December 1, 2012 by Tundrastrider
justwannaddl
1) Spell crafting 2) A colorful landscape that isn't covered with impassible rocks and mountains3) Casual conversations between NPCs (even if they were wooden and get a bit repetitive) 4) The ability to defend myself underwater. 5) Knowing how much longer my buffs are going to last without looking at my watch.6) A UI better designed for use on a PC7) Dungeons with multiple paths.8) Shivering Isles9) Various mods10) The respect you gain with fame and titles Yeah, there are a lot of things I miss from Oblivion when I play Skyrim but it is the last one that I just cannot get used to. I'm the Dragonborn thane in every freaking city who defeated Alduin yet everyone still treats me like dirt. Say what you will about Cyrodill but they treated the hero of Kvatch right. Ragicka
I had a follower fixate on some slaughterfish the other day. Wasted a lot of time trying to draw them closer to shore so I could use a weapon. Can't I just jump in with a dagger and be done with it already? I miss underwater combat. I miss the acrobatic perks like forward and side rolls. In skyrim there's only forward roll in sneak mode. Then there's magic casting. In skyrim it bugs me a little when I have to pull a weapon or go into combat mode to cast a healing spell. I miss not being able to bait bad guys and draw them outside of their caves and dungeons so I can ambush them. In oblivion, I once led a merry chase with 5 goblins, a bear and a couple of wolves from IC to Skingrad. Hilarious. The 360 degree camera view was nice to have in or out of combat mode. Player head tracking and facial expressions were also missed but we have a mod for that now, thankfully. I prefer Oblivion facegen and took a while to get accustomed to Skyrims simplified version. But at least the npcs don't look like cartoon characters. Attribute and skill management was also fun for me, I got right into it. Even used console commands and analyzed the crap out of my characters progress. So I miss that a little bit. Good times, good times. But Skyrim has its charms and I have no plans on revisiting Oblivion any time soon.
Tantalus010
I miss being able to be kicked out of a guild and playstyle freedom in general. I could come up with tons of stories in Oblivion and just play them. I've also noticed that too many NPCs are essential. Some of the radiant quests in Dawnguard are all but impossible to complete fully because of this. For example, I can't find a prominent citizen of Riften who isn't essential. I also miss jumping attacks, underwater attacks (slaughterfish are extremely annoying in Skyrim), and spell creation. Those should never have been taken out. I also agree that Skyrim has basically been dumbed down to appeal to a wider audience, and it's a shame. In the process, it's lost some of what made previous TES games so great. At least the telekinesis spell is slightly less useless than it was in Oblivion - still not what it should be, though. I should be able to telekinetically pick up a sword and fling it at a bandit, doing no less damage than a power swing would.
mindw0rk2
Abit more developed guild quests (DB still brings memories). Nothing else really.
ginnyfizz
Abit more developed guild quests (DB still brings memories). Nothing else really. This, absolutely. And yes, the Chargen is dumbed down. In OB I could change the size and slant of the eyes, mess around with the nose in great detail, change size and shape of nearly every facial feature. If only we had the OB sliders in Skyrim, I could actually create some decent looking characters. Well at least I managed to de-uglify my Elves thanks to Nuska's Ethereal Elven Overhaul and swapping of normal maps...
