lazerus48
So I have a little question about the Mugen section, does it make even any sense on this site? Almost every existing Mugen content is created with sprites and sounds from different games, and would break your "no porting rule." because many creators try to recreate accurate versions of the Characters/Stages they love the most or try to make a version of it in a different playstyle etc. I wanted to encourage creators to upload their creations here but I'm not sure if it makes much sense if practically almost all creations breake the rules of this site anyway. =/
StormWolf01
Heyas Lazerus. While I profess that I'm not familiar with Mugen (I've never even heard of it til now), I'll try to explain this as best I can. There are some game companies that allow their content to be ported to other games. Those are definitely ok to use. There are some game companies that will allow the content to be ported, With Permission when Granted, which are ok, as long as you can prove the permission was given, upon request by the site staff. Tho, in some cases, both of those come under stipulations, such as the author cannot gain from the use of the assets, so the author also has to abide by that. I used to have a link for some of the companies that the nexus KNOWS allow, allow by permission, or deny use of their assets, but I'll be darned if I can find it  This of course, assuming that Mugen doesn't have rules against ported content being put into their game. But from your description it doesn't sound like it. Edited February 4, 2020 by StormWolf01

The thing with mugen is that everything is realy complicated and not always 100% clear, because mugen became are completly community driven thing, the original developer elecbyte just abandoned Mugen (Two Times by now) and vanished without a trace, and there have been no rules against using content from other games in the community as far as I know. The only companies where I'm 100% sure that they allowed the Mugen community to use there content where Capcom and SNK, who consider mugen content with stuff from their games as "Fanart" as long people don't try to make money with it, but even that information is over 12 Years old. The basic rule on the Nexus is, "If you're not sure you have permission, you don't." The ones that I know have granted petmission for use of their games' assets in mods are these: Bethesda -- Allows use of assets ONLY for mods for the exact same game as the source. BioWare -- Allows use of assets for any game IN THE SAME SERIES as the source. CDProjekt Red -- Allows use of all assets in mods for ANY game. (The above all stipulate "non-commercial use only".) So that means before anyone can even think of using the mugen section here effectively, we need to contact all companys who made 2D Fighting games in the past and ask them about there stance on fan content. I slowly get the feeling that it would be easier for everyone to just remove the mugen section for now, and reopen it at a point when it is clear which Fighting Game companies are ok with fan content and which are not, and reopen it with clear sections and guidelines for what can be used and what not, there are to many uncertainties right now and it is impossible to upload anything there right now without automatically breaking the Rules of Nexusmods. =/ But thx for the reply.
