Castle Volkihar main entrance door problem

I haven't been able to enter Castle Volkihar in years it feels like. I can enter the back or side of it when it gets to the part where you go looking for Serana's mother, but the front entrance, not the gate, is always a CTD. I've used console commands and nothing works to get inside. I can bypass the quests with console comands, but I can not enter that fron door at all. I also have to side with the Dawnguard so that I don't get quests from the vampires inside Castle Volkihar.

 

My rig is fine. I run the game on about 100 mods and on ultra settings with a solid 50-60 fps. I use LOOT and BOSS. I also TESVEdit to clean the files required. I have no other issues with the game, just that entrance.

 

I can also say that I've tried entrance on new intalls, new game, with zero mods and still I get the crash at the entrance. It really sucks because I like the Dawnguard DLC and playing as vampire, which I haven't been able to do in a very long time. I've been through the Dawnguard DLC a few times at least. I just wish there was a fix out there to get this going again.

like yourself i was trapped outside of the castle so then i picked the door and i simply delete this piece of c%#@ then you enter the castle and everything is ok

Approach the door to the castle. Enter the console, select the door, type "unlock" without quotes. The door will open & Serana will follow.

This was fixed in my game my the unofficial patch.

Another late reply ... Most of the time I've found this bug (and it's not just the Castle Volkihar door) it's because NPC's that are scripted to lead you somewhere or do something before you can act have a "player detection circle" (I don't know what else to call it.)

 

A good example of this is Camilla (of Riverwood Traders) When she is to lead you to the bridge and direct you to Bleak Falls Barrow. If you run to far ahead, she will stop, if you fall to far behind, she will also stop. You must stay a very precise distance form her, listening to her inane chatter the whole time, in order to get her final little speech and complete the unlisted (Optional) quest objective of "follow Camilla to the bridge".

 

Same happens I've found with Serana sometimes and the castle door (and many other NPC's and many other "lead the player to" objectives), I've found moving backwards and forwards and running in a couple of different directions, eventually you will hit just the right spot and they will walk forward and lead you through the door / to the objective.

 

I'm not sure if there is any way to fix it, apart from maybe auto-assigning the various NPC's to a Temporary Follower Faction. (like some of the crrypt/dungeon NPC's) so that they will follow the Dragonborn and continue there assigned tasks/objectives, regardless of your distance from them.
