StormWolf01
Hello Nexus. If you're reading this, then this is intended to be a collection of edits, and mods that will allow to to modify some of the colorization the game naturally sets for the Pip Boy.Some of these are .ini edits, while others are mods. ******************************* :nuke: ***** D I S C L A I M E R ***************************************** Editing your .ini files can have consequences that can break your game. MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR .INI FILES BEFORE TAMPERING WITH THEM!***** You make these edits AT YOUR OWN RISK. I take no responsibility if you mess it up, and screw up your game! Keep backup copies!***** After making your edits, always remember to save your files. In notepad, you can do this by Holding down the CTRL key, then tapping the S key. Or, you can just close notepad and it will ask you if you want to save, choose Yes.I also make absolutely NO promises that these will work on ANYTHING but the vanilla Pipboy. They MIGHT work with mods such as the PipPAD, or Pipboys that are made to resemble versions from other games, they might NOT. Those are mods, and I take no responsibility for how their settings may differ from the vanilla Pipboy.************************************ D I S C L A I M E R ************************************ :nuke: *The first thing you will need to know, is where your Fallout .ini files are. Here is the instructions for finding them. -- They are located on your computer here - C:\Users\XXX\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 You can get there, by clicking open My Computer, Computer, or This PC icon located on your desktop. (The name of this icon varies, per version of Windows.)It will open a file Explorer window. On the left side of this window, you will see Window's shortcuts. Double Click on the one that says Documents-- Now Double Click on the folder named My Games. -- Inside My Games, you want to open the Fallout4 Folder. ---- Within this folder you will have at least 3 files in there that are important. There may be several copies of them, depending on what mod manager that you use. But the ones that I list are the ones that are important to us right now. Fallout4.iniFallout4Custom.iniFallout4Prefs.ini Prefs.ini is mostly just the UI settings that you have set up for your game settings through the game launcher. We're not going to worry about it for this. Fallout4.ini contains a large majority of our settings located. In the older days, this is where we would do the majority of our .ini edits. However... Fallout4Custom.ini is where we can now make customized edits to the .ini file, without possible contamination of the regular .ini file. Custom.ini overRIDES any settings that are in the base .ini file. ** All .ini files can be opened by default with Notepad.exe which comes installed on every version of windows as a very basic text editor. ******************************Ok, now, on to the good stuff!****************************** *** Turn off that ugly green overlay on the Pipboy screen. What this does, is well, turns off the green screen on the Pipboy, and makes it so that it turns into a black and white screen. Why do we want to do this? Because if we want to add extra color to the interface of this screen, we have to get rid of the green overlay. In your Fallout4Custom.ini file add this line - [Pipboy] bPipboyDisableFX=1 Copy and Paste this into your Custom.ini file. If it's already been added in there by a mod, no worries. If you already have a Header (Area in brackets [ ] for [Pipboy] Then make sure that this new line of code goes underneath it. You don't want 2 headers that say [Pipboy].*Note that this also affects computer terminal machines. :woot: *** Pipboy Flashlight no longer the color of your screen.Did you change the color of your text and highlights to a nice color that is pleasing to the eye, but noticed that your Pipboy flashlight is now that same color? Get rid of that, if you want to. [Pipboy] bPipboyEffectColorOnLight=0 Now, IF your .ini already has this entry, but it reads bPipboyEffectColorOnLight=1All you have to do is change the 1 to a 0. *** Want more color saturation on your Pipboy screen? Or...less? [Pipboy] fPipboyEffectColorSaturationMesh=0.6500 fPipboyEffectColorSaturationOnLight=0.3900 Raising or lowering those numbers will add or lower the amount of color that your screen displays. So if you want more color when the light is not on, increase the 0.6500 in SMALL increments like 0.6550 until you find a level that is to your liking. Similarly, reduce the number to put less color in your screen. *** Is your Pipboy screen too dark? Or too bright? [Display] fPipboyScreenEmitIntensity=1.2500 fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensity=0.150 This works in the same way as the saturation settings. Make the numbers higher to increase, make the numbers lower to decrease. Increase will make it brighter, decrease will make it darker. Again, adjust in small increments. *** Is your Power Armor display too dark or too bright? Here's the settings for that. Works the same as what I just mentioned. [Display] fPipboyScreenEmitIntensityPA=3.000 fPipboyScreenDiffuseIntensityPA=1.0000 ***NOTE- Some of the UI mods available for power armor may have already readjusted these settings. ---Much thanks to AFK Mods for the majority of these .ini tweaks. https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/topic/4316-fallout-4-useful-ini-settings/  *** Want to add a custom color to that UI or Pipboy UI, but just can't get it right in the sliders? [Pipboy] fPipboyEffectColorB=0.0900 fPipboyEffectColorG=1.0000 fPipboyEffectColorR=0.0800 This, is already located in your Fallout4Prefs.ini. But, if it's not already in your Custom.ini, we can add it there. The numbers listed here, are the same as what the slider values would be, in the settings sliders from the Fallout4 Launcher.exe.But...Wolf...How do I get these numbers? Well, Windows gives us a way to cheat and get those numbers, while seeing the actual color that we're going to use. --First, tap the Windows key on your keyboard. Then you will see a box that says Search. In the search box, type in paint. When it finds MS Paint, click on it, and that will open the program. From here on out, I made a screenshot to better illustrate how to get those color codes. It's a thumbnail so just click on it, and it will open the picture in a new browser window or tab for you. Now to the fun stuff! The mods! Note, that I'm not going to focus on mods that change the color of the casing of the Pipboy. There's just too many of them. Or mods that change the wallpaper/background of the screen. Same goes for Pipboy flashlight mods.I take no responsibility for any of the mods listed here, unless they were specifically published by myself. If any of these mods causes problems with your game, seek help with them on the mod author's page for the mod! No more monochrome - Color setting for the Pipboy https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11320This mod, you don't need. There's a mention higher above in the post about how to accomplish this via an .ini edit. In fact, that's exactly how this mod works, is by having an .esp file to make the .ini edit. Gold Kit for Color Pipboy -anti-Black and White Screen- https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11063 One of the very first mods to add color to the UI of the Pipboy. Pip-Boy dual colors - VERY cool mod. Especially since it allows you to make your regular map markers like Red Rocket, Vault 111, Diamond City, Etc as one color, and your other markers like your quest markers a different color. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/43338 Ultimate Colored Vault Boy Animations Overhaul - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/38658 Brighter Pipboy Worldmap https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/175 If you are happy with the vanilla map, but just want it to be a tad bit better.
