JonarusDrakus
Basically, the issue is that I'm am being forced to constantly re-activate the 'archive invalidation' protocol that comes packaged with NV-FOMM, because it doesn't seem to want to 'stick'... By which I mean that the AA doesn't stay in effect, and textures start showing up as solid black in-game... On start-up, everything will be fine, but the AA will drop-out DURING PLAY! This often leads to crashes on cell-transitions as I (try to) enter areas with moddified content (NPC, items, etc). Examples of the issue:1) Goodsprings saloon - NPCs added by the 'Desert Succubus race' are missing skin textures: http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1309/screenshot0qm.jpg 2) Varmit Rifle - Texture glitch on top of the receiver/bolt assembly area (red circle) - This is despite 'vanilla' texture for the weapon, but may still be effected by WMX:http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6103/screenshot1ybk.jpg 3) Concrete wall in a ruined building - Image is pretty self explanitory, but note how all the other textures are working fine (am using NMC's "medium" texture-pack)http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/8655/screenshot4jp.jpg It is really very annoying to be constantly having to quit the game and re-activate AA. Its also annoying that the effected textures seems to vary seemingly at random... Finally, before anyone is tempted to suggest using the 3rd party "Archive Invalidation Invalidated" mod... DONT! I can't turn off the FOMM AA, so the two clash and render the game un-playable, at which point removing A-I-I doesn't resolve the issue an I am forced into a full re-install situation. JimboUK
How many mods are you running? Too many esps/esms can cause issues with textures.
JonarusDrakus
Thinking that might have been the issue, I made a point to do some pruning of my list... But even at its height it was still well under the 'hard limit' (255 isn't it?). I'll save space by not actually posting the actual list... As it stands I have:> 18 .esm files (including the base game and official DLC)> 62 .esp files (both actual mods and patches, not all of which came with texture or mesh changes) There are other non .esp mods (such as NMCs texture pack) too... ~JD
JimboUK
The limit is well below that because of a bug, I had texture/mesh issues with 120-130. If FOMMs ArchiveInvalidation is actually working I would suggest reinstalling NMC but turning UAC off first if the game is in your program files. JonarusDrakus
Thanks for the replies btw- But anyway, a) UAC? b) Does the suggestion still stand even in the face of un-modified content being effected? ~JD
JimboUK
If unmodified content is playing up then it's worth verifying your installation through Steam. UAC is User Account Control which is a security thing with Windows that among other things protects you from alterations to your program files, unfortunately modding is all about making alterations so it causes all sorts of issues. There are two ways around it, either disable UAC while installing mods or move your Steam folder to somewhere outside your program files, for example C:\Steam. I'd verify the game, then disable UAC/Move Steam and then reinstall NMC.
JonarusDrakus
I re-verified my install easily enough... But after that I hit a bit of a brick wall... You see, my 'steamapps' folder is larger than the space that I have left on my hard-drive ^^; Sure, I could risk a direct cut/paste (as opposed to copy/paste) transfer, but I'm a little wary of that... I don't want to end up having to re-install everything (though in technical terms its certainly easy enough, Indeed I've done it once before, back when I first got my current hard-drive). I was also unable to find any reference to any UAC system anywhere... But that may be down to the fact that I'm (still) running XP-home (sp3)... Thanks again for your advice, I'll see what I can work out from my end for now... Maybe I'll just have to 'take the plunge' ^^; ~JD
JimboUK
XP doesn't have UAC if I remember correctly so you can rule that one out, your install can stay where it is. I would now reinstall NMC next.
