**** WARNING! Spoilers and Player Theory Ahead! ****

There's something that I have had banging around in my head for a little while now.

Those of us who have played the game for a while, and gotten to know Nick Valentine know that he's an institute failed project. An attempt to imprint real human memory into a synth.

But the thing that I keep coming back to, is WHY Nick Valentine? Why a police detective?

And since he seems to be completely fully functional, why is he considered a failure by the institute? One that, according to Dima, they tried repeatedly to fix, over and over and over?

My thinking, is that he was the prototype for the next gen courser. Something that could pass as being more human, from having a human-like personality, but also have the tracking skills of a known manhunter, as well as the combat training of a police officer.

As well as having somebody who is used to following, and enforcing law. It makes them more accepting of Institute rules. And for not asking too many questions about their orders.

What I think, that they were trying to "Fix" or "eliminate" was the fact that their tinman, had a heart. Nick has a conscience, and a decent moral fiber. He cares about people in general. That does not make for a good synth hunter.

Or it could also be, that during production, his PTSD over the murder of his wife may have kept resurfacing?

Your thoughts?
