The Dragons

Does anyone have a rough idea of when the dragon war occurred. I am pretty sure that it took place before Alessia since the Nords were free by then. How long before that was the war though?

I'm interested because of a debate over the first dragonborn on the trailer video lol.

I'm of the opinion that Sovngarde conversations prove that dragonborn existed just as long as dragons themselves. Others seem to be suggesting Alessia came before this dragon priest which seems plain wrong to me. Others again said Talos was the first which caused many lols.

The Dragon War (book) isn't exactly specific, but does say that it took place sometime during the Merethic Era. Alessia, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have a presence in history until over 200 years after the dawn of the First Era.

When the first Dragonborn actually "lived" is rather tough to say at this point, but it was most likely during the Merethic Era, as part of the Dragon Cult. However, according to The Book of the Dragonborn, the actual word "Dragonborn" was first recorded into history when Alessia achieved sainthood, which is likely to cause confusion.

In short, the word "Dragonborn" was first used to describe Imperial lineages starting in the First Era, even though (some) men had been given magics from dragons during the Dragon War in the Merethic Era.

Edit: As for Talos (Tiber Septim) being the first Dragonborn, that is pretty lol, considering he was born approximately 3400 years after the word "Dragonborn" first came into use.
