My mods don’t show up in F4SE

I canât save my games with Fallout 4 at all but I did realize that I can save my game via F4SE. However my mods donât work with F4SE, they simply donât show up.

I have F4SE installed properly and I use MO2 to launch it. Iâve tried launching F4SE through steam and from the directory but there was no difference. Do I need to move my MO2 folder somewhere else?

Hiya Gonte. If you are playing in the difficulty mode of Survival Mode, that mode disables your saves. The only way to do saves in Survival mode is sleeping, or getting mods that will let you do saves. Otherwise, don't play survival mode if you're wanting to do regular saves.

F4se is... it's a program that allows for scripting functionality that the regular game does not provide. It lets some mods do more than they would be able to do, without it.

When you are using a modmanager, you need to make sure that the modmanager is set up to run f4se directly, not the game .exe file.

Don't run the game through steam. Keep steam as far away from your game as you can.

You also have to make sure that f4se has administrator privileges, otherwise it will not continue to run. If it doesn't run, it won't be able to activate the mods that require it.

This part is just entirely my personal opinion, but back when I did use modmanagers, I did not use them to start the game. I always started the game via f4se. Seems like there is fewer problems that way.

Also, if your mods are not showing up, then you either do not have them set as active, or there is something wrong with your game as to why they aren't showing up.

I've used ModOrganizer for years, i know all the basics. I've uninstalled F4SE and reinstalled it. I'm definitely not on survival, haven't even touched the settings tab. I've been working on this for three days now and still can't figure it out.

I have the CBBE body that doesn't show in the F4SE. it only shows up in the regular fallout4.exe other things like that are simply not showing up.

Heyas Gonte. Alright, first off.... Anytime that I see a new name that I don't recognize, I'm going to explain things with the assumption that the person doesn't know what I'm talking about. Because I don't know if they do know what I'm talking about, or not. It's a lesson learned from many years of tech support.

So on that note, I apologize if you got the wrong idea. I'm also glad to know that you're partially familiar, that saves me some typing. So thank you :)

Now, however... as far as f4se, there's only 3 things that will keep it from running mods made to use it for scripting. 1) The version of f4se doesn't match your game version. In which case, it will tell you so. 2) It is not set up to run as administrator. 3) Your modmanager is not set up correctly to run the game thru F4se.

:dry: CBBE doesn't use f4se. Did you mean LooksMenu?

Ok, as for your savegames. or lack of rather. Check your .ini settings. C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 "yourname" is whatever name you use to log into the computer that has access to the game.

Your Fallout4Prefs.ini file, in the area under [Main]

Look to see if you have a line that reads something along the lines of this:

bSaveOnPause=1
bSaveOnTravel=1
bSaveOnWait=1
bSaveOnRest=1
If ANY of those have a Zero on them, then that function has been turned off. You need to change it to a 1 to turn it back on.

Crap. The damned thing cut off part of my post again, due to tags usage.

Ok, let me see if I can remember the parts that got chopped.

Oh, thats actually 4 things with f4se. Some mods are very specific on which version number of f4se you have. So you have to make sure that the mod is compatibile with the version of f4se that you are using.

You also need to check your regular ini file, and especially your custom ini file for any lines that affect the saves.

You can do that quicker by doing a word search. Hold the CTRL key, and tap the F key. Type in save and tap the enter key.

If it doesn't find any results, you're all good. If it does find results, you may have to check to see if any of them are set with a Zero, and reset it to a 1.

Continue using the search all the way through the document, until it comes up repeating the results.

Remember to save your changes afterwards. File/Save.

Alright, as for your mods not showing up.

you may have a version conflict. Since the update in November, mods are now game number specific. That means that mods made for game version .130 and .138 may not work with game version .162 and especially .163. The game can just totally skip loading them, as if they don't exist.

One thing that you can do to try to bypass that is install this https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42497 which is a f4se file.

If that doesn't work, then next thing that you should try to do, is if you are running game version .163, do a steam rollback to version .162

You can find out how to do that via a google search. You canNOT rollback any further than .162 due to changes that the game made that are not available on steam via this method.

Now, also, if you DO rollback your version number... you CANNOT allow steam any further access to your game! The reason for this, is that once steam starts up and detects fallout4.exe it will automatically start to update it to .163

WHILE you are PLAYING. This means, that while you are playing, you won't even notice it. But as soon as you shut the game down, steam will apply the updates, and when you start the game again, you are right back to square one. It's a BS thing that bethesda gave steam permission to do.

K, I think that was everything that got chopped.

Hello, just wanted to get involved with this (My mods don't show up in F4SE) topic. I use a rolled back version to 1.10.138 and 0.0.6.17. Have not had any issues with steam updating since learning the technique. I am having a mods not activating/Validating issue, where the file structure and ESP are present in the Vortex game folder but the mods do not get loaded into the game

Have two mod ESP's not loading positively, one a missing armor and one with a F4SE missing master warning.

I am hoping to hear a solution that is not CC related.

StormWolf01, thank you for responding. The mod that was identified as missing master was a Devious mod from the LL. It was a new install, not a new mod, also had a large requirement list. I removed them all when missing master notes started. Three mods have failed to load ESP's are all very new, Panundrums Ring Bikini, Tactical Combat Swimwear and COCO LaceBody. In all three cases the mod showed in Bodyslide, the ESP is present in game folder but the ESP does not show in the EXE.explorer in game.

What you printed above is fitting together very well. Just trying to find a solution for a load list that is for fun and trying out new nods. My next step is to find a chart for version number matching for the mods I use that are F4SE sensitive.

Loaded the Version Check Patcher and the exe Auto-Backup. I found the new exe Auto-Backup folder so that tests working. I do not know how to test the Version Check Patcher. It's dll is present in F4SE pluggins but I can only assume it is doing something. Would seem that it would need to preload like crash fixes in Skyrim to effectively win over the game

Now that I know the problem was not due to any particular mod, I have to go visit a couple pages. If you want links to the pages, I can do that.

Heyas battlemaga. No problem ;)

Technically, this really should be in a different post, as we are thread hijacking.

I'm pretty sure that we can't offer support for mods from LL, as that site is on the blacklist for here. Ported content.

But the 3 nexus mods that you've mentioned, those I can help you out with.

Finding the version number of a mod is really easy. You just load the mod up in Xedit, and then once it's loaded, you click on the + sign next it's name to expand it. Then click on the line that says Header. Over in the right hand panel you find where it says Version. Version 0.950000 is for .138 and lower versions of the game. Version 1.000000 is for vers .162+ versions of the game.

You can actually change the version number in xedit to make the older versions compatible with the new game. Or vice versa.

Just the exe backup will not save ya, if bethesda pulls another stunt like they did back in November. They replaced a total of 4 different files with the updates. Those other three files aren't available on steam so it's not possible to do a full, working rollback from the latest update.

Making a backup of the entire game folders on your computer is your best bet.

The version patcher bypass doesn't actually give you any confirmation. There's 3 ways that I know of to tell whether or not they're working. 1) Check your load order through the game menu to make sure they're active. 2) Manually check to see if the items or mod is active while you are in game. 3) ESP explorer can show you a list of the esp mods that are running in your game, and give you access to any of the items that are available in the mods.

Appreciate the offer, but I'm good. :) Especially if they're LL links, I don't want ya getting into trouble ;)

Ok... I've had this game for five days and haven't played it without running into issue after issue...

So what I was missing was literally every mod but my ENB. Nothing was working at all. None, zilch. It was as if I didnt install a single mod. Another problem which is what I was more worried about was Fallout not saving. I would press save and it would show that it was saving but the loads option was grey so i couldn't save no matter what i tried.

The only thing I did not try was so access my Virus and threat settings which I could not access because of an IT admin limitation error. So I had to start looking that up, people started telling me to reinstall windows and I made that my my last move. after trying everything I finally reinstalled windows and lost A LOT.

However, I managed to get the mods working... but now every enb that I try won't work.

I spent 90$ on thsi broken game, and I've finally given up. I hope this helps anyone else with the problem.
