Big trouble in Big town.

I noticed that the game freezes in big town.

If you within the town, you cross a invisible border. Going from the tree with garbage around it to the pick nick table straight across, and beyond is 1 cell and back to the bridge also 1 cell. So big town is build up in 2 cells. So when it crashed, I reloaded and tried to prevent as much memory use as possible. By doing the following. Go to settings, turn of all sound with the help of the sliders, turn of all dialog. Move head down to the picnic table. Keep looking down, move to the door of the 2d building to the right when you come in. Open the door. Save game. Leave building in the back, enter 3th building same site from the back. Heal Timebomb, leave through the front door. And the game won't freeze. And make sure you are at the bridge, when the super mutants attack and the slavers just after that. Meaning you want to cross that invisible border, before there is to much activity again. So the problem is what i think, with the cell beyond the tree and picnic table. It crashes, when there is to much activity within the cell when you cross the line. So how do i designate more memory to that cell.

Kudo's to an astute observation from in game. There is a cell border running parallel with the north edge of those second set of houses after crossing the bridge. So passing that , you walk into another cell , but also from the back going right ... you cross into another cell.

So whats happening is you are loading a new set of 5 cells infront of you , but unloading 5 cells behind you. Via the uGridsToLoad = 5 setting. Meaning the objects loaded in memory exist within a 5x5 block of cells with the player in the center cell of that always.

So , sad to say , big town there , is no exception to how much activity the game engine is going to demand from your equipment. Albeit with the supermutant and slaver attacks it might be towards the higher end.

Are you just running the vanilla game , or do you have mods installed ?

Inwhich case it could be a mod conflict and not your equipment.

As far as settings you can turn down ... the only one for sound I think that might matter would be music turned off ?

In Display ... the best improvement while still being playable is "Grass Fade" and "Tree Lod Fade" in my opinion and experience.

But I would mess with the rest just to see what you get.

Post back your equipment and load order for mods if you think there is an issue there that can be figured out.

Oh and I guess I better link the https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/How_to_ask_for_help
