ashtonlp101
So I'm currently writing/designing a mod called "Nuclear Order." It's these semi-xenophobic zealots who genuinely believe Super Mutants/mutated creatures are naturally evil and want to rule over humans. I'm debating on how to design the world space and levels for this mod. I have recently been playing Metro Exodus and absolutely love the cults/religions and the creepy and serious tone (Going through a bunker and spiders are crawling all over the walls and ambushing you, or these fanatics attacking you for using electricity). I would like to know if overall, Fallout fans like the goofy and somewhat serious Old World Blues style of Fallout, or the Metro/Lonesome Road seriousness/creepy eerie side of Fallout. I've always preferred somewhere in between but this mod is currently leaning towards the serious and eerie side.
Radioactivelad
I think seeing this is an either/or situation is the wrong perspective. As a vanilla example, think about the quest Lucky Old Sun and the character Fantastic. He's a goofy character in a serious Quest; he contributes to the plot by giving the player key information, but his presence doesn't change the whole quest in to a comedy. Later on the joke goes one step further when you find out he managed to land a job at Hoover Dam, again putting humor in to an otherwise serious situation, without the scenario specifically being a comedy. The humor doesn't even need to be recognized as such by the in-game characters, it can be purely Conceptual. The poor construction of Sierra Madre Villa is not framed as a joke in-game, but we as the audience can find humor in just how extensively terrible it was. (Lot of overlap with this concept and Black Comedy) It's not whether you should have humor at all, but having humor when and where you think it's appropriate for the story you're trying to tell. ("Appropriate" being defined entirely by the Writer of course.) Edited February 17, 2020 by Radioactivelad

TheShark76
I also noticed the grotesque tone of Old World Bues. The situation in which the character is thrown is serious, but all the main characters always remain vaguely ironic and very often they seem really stupid, as if they wanted to tear you a smile. I prefer the other DLCs, which are more tragic and disturbing, in Lonesome Road there is nothing to laugh about and I was in constant tension, worse than in Dead Money. If I were in your place I would do exactly as you say: do it serious, mysterious and full of bad and sinister people. In short, Fallout people ....
