The Expansion Story Line

If any of you checked out the website before or even now, and read all the background on Elder Lyons, and his group of Brotherhood guys you would see that there is a ton of backstory there that isn't even touched during the game.

Lyon was of course sent to gather technology, but instead decides that saving the people of the wastes from the Super-Mutants is more important. So he has his own campaign to bring down the super mutants, thus causing Brotherhood Loyalist to become Outcasts. There is also some crap about finding how these Super-Mutants are reproducing.

I think there is a lot of story here that was obviously not touched on. Perhaps in the expo or even DLC they could make the Brotherhood a joinable faction and allow you to take down the source of the Super Mutants and also bring an end to the Outcast situation.

Perhaps you could join up after the GNR incident (with the recommendation of Sent. Lyons) and go through a couple of quests to show that you are in fact brotherhood material. You would be able to get the Power Armor training earlier as well. After that you could go to a few locations and find evidence on how the super mutants are created and ultimately stop their production.

Perhaps you could join help the outcasts instead retake the Citadel force Lyons back on the correct path... Thus forsaking the Wastelanders.

Anyone else see this?

You thoughts?

Stop me if I'm wrong... but In vault 112(?) where Fawkes is found, don't you kind of learn how the DC super-mutants were created? Maybe I'm not understanding what exactly you're saying but it was my impression from the game that the super-mutants were made in that vault (and from what Fawkes said) and since they all happened to become super-mutants themselves there's really no 'reproduction'

I could be mistaken, but that's what I gathered.... everything else though, hey, I'm up for it!

You mean Vault 87. Either way, my quibble is that the researchers in Vault 87 modified the FEV on their own, yet came up with the same results (SUPAR MUTANTES) as the jokers on the West Coast. Now, they do mention contact with the Mariposa base and the fact that the soldiers there are getting slightly cranky, but I do wonder if they were sharing their results. It seems that the evidence in FO3 indicated that the FEV virus was developed in DC and then sent to Mariposa.

This would indicate that Vault 87 was sealed before the war, would it not?

Could that would also be the reason why there is a population outside vault 87 (Little Lamplight) perhaps? Vault 87 was already occupied by test subjects and the "real" residents couldn't get in? Or are the Lamplighters the descendants of people taking refuge in the caverns?

Questions, questions...

I got that part from 87... but how are the mutants continuing to repopulate.... I think we are left to assume that is what they do with captives. But where? How? Is there an ultimate plan?... Better yet... is there an Overlord - one who controls the Super Mutants?

There are alot of questions and I think an expansion pack would be the perfect answer.

There are some holotapes that confirm this in Little Lamplight.

As for the Mutants... someone is controlling them. They're rounding up humans and taking them somewhere, which means somebody's making more. There are probably Vats in DC. You can overhear a conversation (of sorts) in the Germantown Police HQ that explains some of this.

Hmm, I only found one holotape there. I'll have to do even more digging around in there.

In Vault 87 I heard a SM say

"The Stupid Box said men would come and take our green stuff away."

So of course I took the Vault apart without finding said

"Stupid Box,"

so I don't think it's located in Vault 87. I do wonder if

the "Stupid Box" is really the President of the Enclave. I'm thinking that the BOS, the Outcasts, and the raiders (Oakland or not) just aren't big enough enemies to justify the Enclave coming in with guns blazing. Super Mutants on the other hand, are a huge enemy, in every manner of speaking. So, me being a suspicious git, finds it quite easy to believe that the "President" of the Enclave is working with the SMs.

Then again, I am paranoid when it comes to things like that, and I hope to be surprised when I figure it out. If it can be figured out...

Well a stupid box could be a radio, but I have doubts about it being the Enclave behind the super mutants, seems likely to me its either someone completely new or they are being directed by some super mutants that retained intelligence. I would be really dissapointed if Bethesda doesn't do anything further with the super mutant source.

I wouldn't be surprised if some intelligent Super Mutants came to the East and started experimenting. Harold made it all the way over there, so the Super Mutants had tonnes of time to, also. And although Fallout Tactics is not canon, they had smart Super Mutants who where doing experiments and it was noted that they were expanding their areas of operation.
