Tekztorm
I recently got into playing around with mods and after a few days of trial and many many errors, i just cant seem to get my mods to work, i would really like to keep all of these mods but if something has to go i guess i have no choice. Im pretty sure i followed instructions carefully on each mod i installed with things like generating FNIS behaviour and so forth. On an absolute fresh save where the only mod that i installed post Unbound quest was "Helgen Reborn" for obvious reasons. I keep crashing when entering the sleeping giant, im at my wits end, I have my suspicion that it may have something to do with NPC meshes because in a previous load order attempt i had the same problem with bannered mare and it only arised after installing bijin wives+war maidens. I would really appreciate one of you smarter people to please help me, i have played the game for maybe a few hours but spent days modding and trying to get it to work. This is my hardware: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6 Core Processor16GB RamGTX 1060 6GB C:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Legendary Edition all DLC Im using NMMSKSE 1.7.3 (steam install)LOOT Tes5Edit, i cleaned all mods This is my Boss Log: These plugins are recognised by BOSS and have been sorted according to its masterlist. Tekztorm
i was going through and turning mods on and off and found that i could enter with the recorder follower turned off, i dont know why i thought it would do anything but i reinstalled the mod and i was able to enter with it enabled. Im starting to think perhaps using tes5edit on everything that i could was a bad idea, im going to purge all mods reinstall them all again and just clean the few that loot says to. i might do a fresh install of skyrim while im at it to make sure everything is nice. if theres any advice anyone can give me, please do. If you are using LE then these are what you want (sorry about the format I copied this from my blog on CTDs):1) Crash fixes. Found here and fairly self-explanatory (as always, do read the directions): https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725 2) ENBoost. This one is more difficult and I hope to do a walkthrough at some point in the future. It is VERY important if you have less than 4GB of VRAM. If you have 8GB or more you probably don't need it. At 4GB it's your call (I have 4GB and I use it). Anyway, you will need to look in more than one place in order to complete this (although it will take you through it). Start here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73618 As if ENBoost is not difficult enough MicroSoft has chosen to throw some additional glitches in for users of Windows 10. If you have problems getting ENBoost to work and you run Windows 10 take a look at this (I had to): https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3089504-fix-for-skyrim-crashing-instantly-with-enb-on-windows-10/?p=56131491 3) SKSE. ini. The SKSE program does not come with this. As a result you do not get all the benefits of SKSE. While you can make your own version this one is already complete and optimized. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51038?tab=files 4) SKSE plugin preloader. Helps organize SKSE so as to improve management. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75795 5) Bethini. Skyrim's .ini files give it directions on how to handle your game. Problems with .ini files can cause all sorts of problems. While it is entirely possible to deal with these files by yourself Bethini gives you a tool with which to handle them safely. It is also much more intuitive than editing the files by yourself. It can be found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/69787
Tekztorm
thank you so much for your help, i just watched a gopher video on enb boost after you posted this and i have a slight understanding of what that is, i do want to use a Clarity ENB with my game, i should have mentioned that before. will it be possible to have have skyrim use more vram while using clarity to save some of the 3.1gb limit for other mods? ENBoost is simply there for those of us who want the additional help with memory but don't particularly want and ENB.
Tekztorm
oh ok, i also came across ICBINE last night and im thinking about giving it ago, it looks just as good as the current ENB preset i had been using (not sure where i got it but it was one tuned for 6gb nvidia graphics card, apparently by ENB creator). wfandrews
Nothing will cause the game to use more than 4gb of dedicated video memory. ENBoost and skse.ini will make use of those 4gb more efficient but will not increase the amount of memory used. Those guides to enblocal.ini which advise you to use some complicated formula to find your Video Memory Size are pretty much worthless. You can have 20gb of video memory and the game will still only use 4gb of that. In the Skyrim forum on Steam in, I believe it is Ilja's pinned thread there, is a tutorial by Avrie called ENB Under the Wrapper if I remember correctly. It is very much worth a look. I had a large problem with stuttering when I used ENBoost and it took me a year or so of trying five or six configurations to enblocal.ini, including STEP's before I finally tried Avries and that worked for me. Of course that does not mean it will do the same for everybody, as we all know, or should, there is no universal panacea for anything out there. The main difference in Avrie's config. and the one I believe made the most difference for me was in the [Memory] portion which was: ReservedMemorySizeMB=512VideoMemorySizeMB=4064 The rationale behind those numbers is that as those are the numbers that the game engine was built to use, anything more is just wasted. wfandrews
I believe it is true of SSE too although I am not sure. I do know that SSE uses a 64 bit engine while Legendary uses a 32 bit engine. I believe that SSE is more stable and uses video memory more efficiently than Legendary does. This is my personal opinion and I am sure you will find other opinions that differ than mine. The opinion on modding is a hangover from when SSE was first introduced. Almost all the major mods have been ported over to SSE from Legendary by now. One of the last being Complete Crafting Overhaul, a mod I sorely missed and was very happy to see finally ported. If you must choose between the two I would advise you to go with SSE although having both there is no reason why you cannot play both at the same time. You can use one game to experiment with a mod that you are interested in but have never played. I use SSE to play mods like Beyond Skyrim Buma or The People of Skyrim. Those are mods that I had never played before so I would start a new profile shaped around the mod. The reason I use SSE for that is because I believe it runs large mods better than Legendary. I play Legendary to just fool around with making different choices in my game play. I have been playing Legendary since it first came out in 2011 so I am not concerned with achievements or completing quests, I just enjoy playing the game.
