Hickory
Hi all, I recently started playing XCOM, and I've run into an issue whereby one of my soldiers is permanently designated 'wounded', so I cannot use him. There is no 'xx days' displayed, and no matter how long I wait, his status never changes -- I've gone more than 30 days without him, now. Is there any way I can 'kick him out of sick bay', so to speak? Here's an image of what I mean: http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/2540/xcomwounded.jpg

Perko42
I've been researching this for a number of hours, and no there appears to be no known way to fix this or work around it. Hard to believe they have not bothered patching this up as it's a serious problem that affects many people and has been reported repeatedly. I was hoping to hex edit the save file around it, and worked on that extensively, but have had no luck so far. I know where & how the "hours wounded" is stored, but not the current status. They appear to be separate, as the soldier remains wounded even after the hours decrement to zero. The main problem is that the save files are compressed and CRC'ed. There is a compressor/decompresor utility available (fairchild @ 360haven), but the recompressed save isn't recognized as valid by the game, probably because it uses a CRC check that fails as he appears to simply copy it over from the original save. Presumably it works for the Xbox, but not on the PC. Somebody has recently posted python code on how to do the CRC & where it's stored, and I have that running, but can't get the CRC to match what the game is using. The CRC algorithm they use is presumably non-standard. I'm in contact with that poster to see if I can get that working. If I could get the recompressed file recognized, I was hoping that setting the wounded hours remaining to 1 might give it a new chance to unwound that soldier when it goes to 0 again. The bug appears to be introduced into the save as soon as the soldier returns wounded, not just when he should return to duty, which makes it difficult to reload old saves around it as you've likely played a couple of missions when you find out about it. I thought it might have to do with his gear changing, but giving him various armor/vests before he recovers doesn't help. That's all I have at this point. If I get further, I'll update. dubiousintent
It's not of any immediate help, but Bokauk is working on adding the ability to edit 'save files' to her 'ToolBoks' app. (Just a 'proof of concept' at the moment.) A comment describing the issue there will give her something specific to look into adding. Some donations will motivate putting it higher on the feature list to implement. -Dubious-
Hickory
Some donations will motivate putting it higher on the feature list to implement. -Dubious- What? Donate or wait? I certainly hope not. I'm sure that must break site rules.
dubiousintent
Merely an observation on my part; trying to be helpful. I do not speak for the author of ToolBoks, or any but my own work. Let's face it: money talks (or at least provides a guilt driven motivation), and modders are volunteers. They work on what they are interested in first. If YOU want them to be interested in something you want, then you have to either pique their interest or work on it yourself. And your project requests are competing with others with similar interests that differ from yours who want the modder to do the work for them as well. If you were the modder in that situation, how would you prioritize requests? Even with donations, you are still going to have to wait upon the modders pace, which is influenced by many RL factors. You are simply trying to influence how long your particular need will take, compared to other requests. The modder is under no obligation to even consider others desires. It's just that most are trying to contribute to the community and their primary reward is the gratitude of those who use their contributions. The more 'requests' they can meet the more likely people will find their work useful. Donations are voluntary, and not against site rules. Why else do you think the site provides a donate button? The original intent may have been as a reward mechanism, but nothing says they can't serve as motivators as well. If you choose to use donations in that manner, that's a personal choice. If the modder is influenced by donations linked to a request, that's another. (Personally, my own contributions are so trivial I place them in the public domain and would block a donate button if I could. But ToolBoks is a major piece of work and takes a lot of effort to keep updated after new game patches are released, which gets worse the more features it has implemented. It's a different kettle of fish.) Again: I do not speak for Bokauk. I was merely making an observation in general terms of how life seems to function. Feel free to ignore it. -Dubious-
Willowran
lets bring this back, shall we? I am being continuously crippled by having my best troops become permanently wounded- and at late levels of the game this is devastating, as a rank-one troop will have difficulties doing much against elite mutons. I will donate whatever i do not care, can someone fix this bloody problem? *angry willowran face* I just started a new game today (about an hour ago), because i could barely continue in my other game, and not a single wounded figure has been able to return to the battlefield as of yet. http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5216/jpfr.jpg Edited September 24, 2013 by Willowran
