mrmerlin
I was running around 200 mods stably prior to moving back to two monitors. I have an RTX 2070 and an I-9900 16 gigs of ram 600 watt PS so I know it's not my build. whenever I open new games after downloading a few more mods when I moved back I am seeing extreme frame rate drops to less then 20fps... I've tried changing my Vscnyh value to 0 in my prefs ini. I've tried changing my v synch to adaptive in my Nvidia control panel. I've tried messing with settings from ultra to medium but I still get s#*! quality when I had it capped at 60 in beautiful HD with re-textures not a week before. Ive tweaked settings on resolution, I've used other nvidia fixes found on the web. I've tried changing window sizes on my smaller monitor with higher hrz and display.... nothing has worked... I've tried running a totally vanilla vortex with no mods and the problem still persists. After, I tried re downloading my fallout 4 via steam and trying that but the same problem persisted. Unless it's my script extender that I dont know enough about to augment I have sincerely run out of fixes I can find of my favorite game =/ I've tried a few more fixes then this honestly it's hard to remember the past 10 hours of so I've put into this intermittently over the past few days. If anyone has any ideas.. Id really be all ears. Thanks for your time reading this. I'm happy to further clarify with anything anyone needs. I just want my favorite game back. StormWolf01
Heyas Merlin.Ok, in the tech field, one of the very first things that we look at is "What changed since this started".You were good enough to mention that you had gone back to using multiple monitors (Which I think is where the issue is, so... GREAT on you. I'll be giving you kudos after this for mentioning that!).Now, since one of the BIGGEST reasons for frame drop, is your video, that leads me to think that this right here is the problem, not your game settings or mods. The very first thing I would do, is go ahead power your system down through the windows shut down. Including turning off your monitors. Check your cables. Make absolutely SURE that you have each monitor connected to the correct jack. That can be a huge mistake, getting those plugged in wrong. The primary monitor has to be in the right spot, and the secondary has to be in the right spot. Consult your user manual for the PC if you have to. If that doesn't take care of it, check your video card settings to make sure they are set up correctly for the dual monitors. Follow that by your windows settings. Also make sure that your resolutions are matching. Particularly your resolution game settings versus the monitor settings. The game res settings you can edit by going through the fallout4 launcher.exe If that doesn't help, one other thing that you might try to do, is rebuild your game .ini files. To do that...1) Make a copy of your .ini files to someplace else on the computer. Always have backups. Says so right in my sig ;)Now, after making the backups2) Delete your .ini files.3) Start the game back up from the fallout4 launcher.exe and let the game start up long enough to rebuild your ini files.4) Shut down the game, go in and make the necessary changes to your .ini files by copy and paste from what you need from your backups. Let us know how it goes ;)-Storm
mrmerlin
Thank you so much This is a lot for me, I wont say I'm the most computer savvy person on earth. modding has really pushed that for me. I'll try these this weekend step by step and report back. I really really appreciate it. Thank you for your time! -Merlin
StormWolf01
Heyas Merlin :smile:Sure thing, not a problem at all. But yeah, my very first thought is that you have your monitors plugged in incorrectly to the wrong ports, and that's what's messing with your video. Good luck, let us know how it goes -Storm Edited March 8, 2020 by StormWolf01
mrmerlin
You're the man Stormwolf! That was exactly the problem. I feel silly I tried a million different fixes without just changing my HDMI ports lol Thank you sooooo much! back to conquering the commonwealth for me. I really really appropriate it! - Merilin
StormWolf01
Heyas Merlin!Glad to hear you got it sorted out! :) Nah, don't feel bad. That thing with the monitors to the correct ports is a really easy one to get mixed up, and also a really easy one to overlook. As it's not something that many people would consider. ;) You are very welcome. Again, I'm glad to hear that it was something really easy to get sorted out :)Happy gaming!-Storm
