I had a similar problem with the gun I uploaded, when equipped it would switch back to the texture the gun it was based off of used. I found out that this is caused by the texture replacing system that replaces the low rez texture with a high rez 1st person texture. I fixed this by going into the gun's STAT --> MODS record in FOMM and deleting everything and replacing it with 000000000 this causes it to stop switching textures and use the low rez ones (the ones defined in the nif) so if you only use one set of textures just use those textures. Basically getting rid of low rez textures and just using the high rez ones. (make shure in the nif the texture paths point to the high rez textures.) If that does not work there is a problem with the texture paths in the nif.

This issue had me baffled for 3 or 4 days!

Yes. I think this is the problem Im having with mod I made that changes the stats of one of the armors in game. I recently took the Hand Me Down Raider armor and gave it some new specs and changed its name. Doing all this in FOMM obviously. I gave it a new FormID and name-I call it Elite Slaver Gear, used player.additem in game and it works great. New weight, DR and name. Problem is, it keeps using the textures for the vanilla Hand Me Down Raider armor. even though in the texture sub records (TX00 and TX01) I have it pointing to my new .dds files as shown below. Im thinking what was suggested to the OP will help me out, but Im not sure I understand what SpeedyB64 is suggesting....
