im playing on high detail, aspect ratio standard, resolution 800x600, antialiasing 2, anisotropic 4, mode vertical sync, no screen effects....

the auto settings the game thinks i should use are actually higher then i use but the vats is almost unusable with those

everything runs perfect until i go to vats mode, then it gets real slow, ive tried tweaking the settings and cant seem to get vats working perfectly. what tweeks should i make to make it go at normal speed?

i have a nvidia geforce 8600 gt

intel 2 core

2 gb ram

win xp

Umm...

You turn into slow-motion in VATS.

That's called 'special effects' ;)

It's perfectly normal.

no no no lol i know what vats is i beat the game on ps3...when i go to vats on the comp certain times it is really really slow making the switch from real time to vats then takes a long time to choose different targets and different limbs

Ah, alright, I think I know what you mean.

Hmm.. I wouldn't know any specific settings that would slow this down..

Give it a try by lowering all settings to very low, and check if the fps still drop when switching to VATS.

It it still gives you bad fps, it's your game. Check what mods you have running, and if even deactivating doesn't help, reinstall.

I know it's a bummer, but if lowering the settings doesn't help, it must be your game.

IF it runs better when lowering settings, find out which one is the big performance eater.

I personally would go for the Depth of Field setting. Turn that off first and check.

i screwed with my settings and without lowering too much i got it working decent. all i really had to do was remove all the shadows which doesnt bother me too bad. now i only get a little slow down when i go to vats while there are a group of people attacking me like 3-4 raiders etc. thank you for the help

It is not about the PC, the game is not working well on some occations, like when entering VATS, I have 8800 GTS with 2gigs of ram with dual core 2.65 Ghz, the game works perfectly but sometimes when entering VATS, the game slows to a crawl, sometimes the game even crashes... I cant even target limbs or something...

Same thing happened to me after a while, and I think it's got something to do with cpu being overused or something, because when I close down everything unecessary using services in administrative tools, vats just magicly works perfectly again without that annoying slowdown
