Making a "mobile" Vortex

Sorry for a confusing title, not sure how to word this idea. I'm basically asking, is it possible to put a game and vortex on a movable drive (I can't think of what you call it right now, but the brick drive that you can transfer stuff to) to make it so you can play on any computer that is suitable?

That's the short question. The reason for it is a bit longer, but maybe typing it all out will help make understanding this easier, since I feel like what I just typed is confusing.

I have a laptop not suited for gaming, like at all. My brother has a PC rig that can handle basically any game, I imagine. He was very nice and let me play on it while he went to work, and I completely messed up his game trying to download a mod. (I should have asked him first, my terrible mistake for assuming this would be easy...)

He had spent hours trying to get it all working and perfect, and I messed it all up. Well, he's given up on it, I can't blame him, I don't even know what disaster (or on what scale for that matter) I caused. I don't want to use his computer because I'll probably just mess things up even more... Plus, this would enable me to have my own set of mods (Since Vortex supports that) and hopefully I'll never be able to mess up his mods/games again.

I have my own copy of the game and Steam account, so I want to "fix" this myself and try to make up for this mess. But, my laptop can't run jack. All I can do is put everything on a 1TB Toshiba Drive and hope it works.

Is this plan even viable? My brother was using Nexus Mod Manager, not Vortex, so I don't know how that's all going to work out...

I have done the following so far, put Steam, Fallout4, and Vortex on the mobile disk drive. I remember he was using something called FalloutSE, which I assume is the Script Extender? I would probably need to install that on the mobile drive too, right? Trying to get the bases down before I go into actually installing mods.

Also, probably a make or break part of this plan, is it possible to mod a game on a computer that can't even start up the game? Basically... do I need a save file?

It would be neat if this ends up working, maybe in the future it'll make moving a game to a future computer of my own easier.

Your plan won't work. If your laptop cannot run Fallout 4, then using an external drive will not solve that problem. On your laptop you need a capable CPU, graphics card, RAM, and motherboard at the very least. Your external drive cannot overcome the lack of these features.

On the other hand, if you want to use your external drive on your brother's PC, that definitely will not work for a variety of other reasons.

To play your game you really need to get a beefier laptop or a good PC.
