Infinite Charged weapons

  1. 1. Which idea do you think is better?

So I always disliked the charge bar, and it made me stray away from enchanted weapons. I thought it would be cool if you had infinite charges but still keep a balanced gameplay so I came up with 2 mechanics of how this could work:

1: enchantments power (damage, etc.) depends on the soul gem but should still stay relatively low.

2: A new soul gem that provides infinite enchantments but uses dragon souls. A possible idea to fill it would be some kind of transmute spell.

I am not a modder so I would not be able to do this so I thought I would bring my idea here.

Hrm... I know this is something that bugged people about the Elder Scrolls series, partially because it isn't typical of the fantasy genre. Personally, I didn't enjoy it as well when I first started playing these games, but I have to admit it has grown on me. There seems to be a few mods I've found that may or may not work for you. I'll try to be brief and post a few links.

Full Weapon Recharge

Infinite Weapon Charge

Unlimited Weapon Charges

Item Recharger

Unlimited Daedric Artifact Charges

I haven't used any of these mods personally, so I'm just going by what is in the description...

Full Weapon Recharge seems to work by modifying an enchanting perk, causing weapons to be recharged every time you trigger a deathblow (but not by a damage-over-time effect you might have applied). This can sometimes cause complications with major overhaul mods that sweep through every perk tree. As always, use at your own discretion.

I'm assuming Infinite Weapon Charge does its thing by modifying weapons directly. Enchanted weapons (at least ones I can modify in the CK/find or buy as loot, weapons you enchant yourself are a little trickier) all have a part of their entry that determines just how much charge they have. From what I've read (could be wrong) you can just change this entry to 0, and the weapon in question now has an infinite charge. The problem is that this causes almost every other part of the weapons stats to be locked in at Vanilla values, unless compatibility versions are made. With mods that make sweeping changes to every weapon available (at least with mods they can play nice with) this can become challenging, especially with making multiple versions to be compatible with every possible combination, exponentially multiplying your workload.

From what I can tell, Unlimited Weapon Charges does the same thing.

Item Recharger is neat, clean, and simple, but may not be for everyone. It makes a new soulgem object, placed somewhere easily accessible (although Riverwood can become clogged with mods, causing unexpected issues), that never empties for infinite refills. I'm not sure if its blocked from being used for making new enchanted items, but if you don't want to use it for that you don't have to.

I thought Unlimited Daedric Artifact Charges looked kind of neat, and seems to be sadly under-endorsed (if it works, I haven't tried it). It is very similar to a couple of mods that I've linked here. It modifies just a few weapons that are already enchanted, all of them powerful endgame weapons that people are likely to use (and possibly mod, which may or may not cause a problem, as always), with a minor change. The simpler a mod is, the better that they can play nice together. These weapons are powerful semi-divine objects that could be seen as deserving to be a step above things more common and mortal.

Anyway, that was my ramble, I suppose you had a list of bullet points.

1: I'll admit I haven't made much headway into the player enchanting system, but it seems a bit more complicated than editing objects. Things are computed dynamically, instead of existing as a lot of hard data that can be easily tinkered with outside of the game with the CK. Maybe there are scripting ways to do this, I'm not really sure, that isn't my bag.

2: You may like the Item Recharger, as long as you don't use it for enchanting new items (if it can do that).

Have fun!
