CTD when Loading Game after converting ESM to ESL

Ok, I was just adding a few mods to my game, and I tried converting a few patches from ESM to ESL to lighten my plugin order (I was my first time, I used a guide). Now when I try to load my game, I get to the loading screen, and then my game crashes to the desktop. It worked fine a few days ago, and I have been adding plugins with no incident prior to changing some of the files to ESL.

I attempted to use SSE Engine Fixes already with no luck, and would rather not have to reinstall my game considering the time and effort I have already put into this already.

When you crash at the loading screen before the main menu this is an indication that one of your plugins is missing a master. Either you have installed something that needs another mod to function. Or the conversion of one or more ESM files to ESL files has caused one or more dependent plugins to not recognize their masters properly. I suspect the latter as ESL files get moved to the bottom of the load order and master files need to be at the top of the load order.

I'm sorry, I worded this poorly.

 

The title screen loads fine, but when I load my save or click "continue", that's when the CTD at loading screen issue occurs.

I just tested that, I got to the character creator, and then my controls stopped working. The game was playing, but I wasn't able to do anything.

Did the game work fine prior to converting the plugins to ESL?

 

It may be possible that while the game is designed to handle a large quantity of ESL files your system itself cannot.

That's my best guess at the moment, I'm going to remove a few unimportant ESLs and see if that makes a difference.

Ok, so removing the mods fixed the CTD issue. However, now Skyrim won't recognize my gamepad, and won't let me move with the controls when I load my game.

 

I'm restarting my computer to see if that fixes the issue, but any advice on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

If a gamepad is anything like a controller, make sure Steam can recognize it. Sometimes Steam does not recognize my controller and then none of the games will either. Sometimes going into Steam's settings for the controller is all it takes. Other times, a reboot is necessary.
