Need help editing a mod

First off, i'd like to point out, i know little to nothing on creating mods. With that being said, would anyone be able to walk me through editing a mod?

I downloaded Creation Kit on steam after taking about 10-20 min figuring out where it was. I opened it up, and tried loading the mod, but it was talking about headers not matching and i got confused, i was worried i might epic fail and break my mod (or worse, my game), so that's why i came here asking for a walkthrough to prevent that.

The mod i got is the "Strapless Bra Bikini" mod. And i'd like to edit it to add armor value to it.

Can anyone help me? with some step by step instructions how to open up the file, edit it, etc, without me breaking it please?

Thanks in advance and i'm really sorry for taking up your time.

In addition to shadowjin's response, I'll add that errors regarding file headers are usually from corrupt plugins made in TESVSnip. Using corrupt plugins in your game can cause issues ranging from save game bloat, to CTDs, to corrupt save games. It's generally recommended to steer away from these.

It is possible to remake most plugins using the CK/TES5Edit/or a combination thereof. For a quick tutorial on how to do this, see my post in this thread. I recommend actually grabbing the mod in question there and going through those steps to get the hang of it.

thanks for the responses. However, majority of your terms i had NO idea what they meant. I suppose i'll take a look at both tutorials and hope i can understand them.

Also, if some files are corrupted, does that mean i have to re-download the mod? will that effect my save files in my game?

Edit: After re-reading your post. I'm assuming you mean editing a corrupted file will screw over my game, which means i also assume that my game is safe atm since i didnt edit any files yet? So the problem is fixing those errors first before editing anything. I'll look at those tutorials when i get back from my haircut. Hopefully those tutorials are for the 'modding impaired' like me.

There used to be a widely available program similar to TES5Edit known as TESVSnip. The author of Snip has hidden it until he can get around to updating it, because the plugins (.esp files) it made are bad. While save game corruption was rare and was usually attributed to particular mods or mods that alter particular things, it's still a possibility from using any file made in Snip. Chances are your save game is fine. Whether you edit it or not, the plugin itself is most likely corrupted. Re-downloading the file won't do a thing; it's very difficult for archived downloads (downloads that come in .rar, .zip, .7z format) to be corrupted through the downloading.

As I said earlier, it is possible to remake the plugin, using the CK/TES5Edit/or a combination thereof.

After looking at your post, i'm confused. Your post was in regards to a spell.. so when it said to open up a magic tree, my file didnt have that. Do i only click on the 'file header'? and continue with the instructions on your post?

And now i got another error. lemme see if i can post the pic.

If you're trying to follow the tutorial from my other post:

I recommend actually grabbing the mod in question there and going through those steps to get the hang of it.

The NavMesh error there is about Skyrim.esm and can be ignored. Most errors when loading plugins in the CK can be ignored. Errors pertaining to File Headers and "Out of order or unexpected records" however are usually indicating that the plugin causing that error was made in Snip.

ok, i found the file i want. and i think i can edit it safely. Now, is there a way i can copy the file so that i can keep the original modded item, and also have the edited one? and if so, what do i have to do to them? I'm worried if i click the duplicate item option i might break something.

Also, the file header error isnt showing up anymore. So i dont know if that was a fluke or what.

Well, i went ahead and edited the original file and tested it out. Seems the edit worked just fine. Now if only i could figure out how to make a duplicate effectively, it'd be great. One where i can have multiples of the same bikini with different armor values.

Edit: Nevermind, that wiki tutorial was VERY helpfull. Very noob friendly. I managed to get my duplicates. Now to figure out how to get them on Lydia.

Edit 2: Ok, now i have another question. Is there a way to make armor invisible? I know it sounds silly, but i want to make my companion look like a hobo by running around bare-foot.

Edit 3: Nevermind, found an invisible armor mod and edited it to suit my needs. Thanx for the help guys. Got everything i need for now.

Mod can close this thread now..

(I made a pun -- ell oh ell)
